I'm trying to wrap my head around the newer 4/4K model, TV app, and Up Next feature. From those with experience in these things...

Is there an app that would allow me to integrate, let's say a 'folder' of personal library shows from a networked drive, into the TV app Up Next? Or would the folder/queue be distinct from Up Next?

I've been looking at the Infuse and Plex apps, but am not entirely sure how they integrate.

Thanks for sharing your experience/info.

The TV app only draws from certain apps
the chosen apps kinda scroll across the bottom of this page
https://www.apple.com/tv-app/

infuse and plex do not go into it.
nor are they searchable in global search.

i don't use the TV app at all, mostly plex (record a lot of my own shows), and HBO & showtime standalone apps

the couple of times i've tried to use the TV app, for me, it doesn't really work well, new shows tend to take a while to show up, so Shameless is on at 9pm, i can go directly there in the showtime app at 9, but it doesn't show up in TV app till the next day.

Dump using the TV app and instead use the often-overlooked Computers app...

...with home sharing turned on. Then your media indexed in the TV app on a Mac will show up there. Computers app is the second most-used app in our household, behind only to the fantastic Channels app. We just about never use the TV app. Why? TV app mostly wants to sell/rent you other media. It barely "cares" about content you already own. It seems primarily focused on extracting more money from wallets. 💰💰💰

Computers (app) is ideal for media you own, possess and have set up properly on a local drive. As promoted when it launched many generations ago, it makes the AppleTV box "an iPod for your television" offering easy access to local:
  • movies,
  • tv shows,
  • home movies,
  • music collection & playlists,
  • photos collection & albums,
  • etc...
...all in ONE app. What it doesn't do? Relentlessly push you to buy/rent/subscribe to other media/services. It lets you enjoy the media already on hand without all of the "commercials."

Plex, Infuse, the TV app, Computers app and others (even the Channels app includes some media library features) are all independent of each other- all UIs for consuming media. There is no meaningful integration and no way to better inject owned media into the TV app. Bail on the TV app though and any of the others are better at dealing with media you own. Computers app is Apple's way of doing it. Plex, Infuse and others have their own ways.

Best I know, there is NOTHING you can do/add/download to make the TV app more flexible in terms of using owned media. It's just not intended to be that kind of app.
