I just remembered that when I had my iPhone 2G, I had a tweak installed that would cause the camera to not snap a photo until the phone was completely still, in order to avoid blurry photos due to an unsteady hand.

Does this tweak, or something like it, still exist?

Yup...

I seem to recall a recent camera tweak that allows for faster shutter speeds, which would help.

I think Camera+ supports this feature. It uses the accelerometer and will take a photo as soon as the phone is still after you press the shutter.

I haven't used it in a while, but it worked fairly well when I last tried it.

It's an app, though, so you don't even need a JB to use it.

I couldn't find any tweaks that did that. I thought CameraTweak might do it but I don't think it does.

I do know that some third party camera apps do it. Camera+ is one that does.

with proximitycam you can take a picture by waving your finger over the sensor so there's less movement while taking a picture

Thanks for the tip. I found that the stabilising function in an old app called Darkroom seems to work better than the one in Camera+.

I would really prefer being able to add it to the stock camera app though since I mainly access the camera from the lock screen. But this is definitely better than nothing. Thanks again!

Or you could use a tweak to change the lockscreen camera shortcut to a 3rd party app ;)

Haha, of course! I was looking for such a tweak before, how odd I didn't think about it this time around. Do you happen to know if there are such tweaks and where I can find them? :)

I used to use LockSliderz back on iOS5. I don't think it works on 7 though. I know there are others. I'll do some searching tonight after work and if I find something I'll post it.

An alternative solution would be to use an activator gesture on your lockscreen as well. Not sure if you use activator or if this is something you'd like to do. But it's an option.

Thanks, I'll check it out!

CameraTweak doesn't contain such functionality. Neither does any other JB tweak - you do have to use third-party AppStore apps. Nevertheless, the accelerometer-based solutions won't really protect from camera shake either.

Probably the best thing is, if you have an 5s, using 645 Pro or Pureshot (both from the same dev) and force it to shoot at 1/30s. (See my detailed report at http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3617550 ). These two apps also have accelerometer-based "stabilizers" but, again, they just can't replace a true, optical stabilizer.

I think its less of an issue now, unless you've got something wrong with your hand. The camera in the 2G iPhones really needed such a tweak because the cameras sucked, to be blunt. It's not necessary now, unless you've got a really shaky hand, in which if it's that shaky, there's nothing that's going to fix it aside from a tripod\fixed mount. I'd be more concerned with a medical condition that causes my hand to shake so violently that the iPhone's fast shutter can't compensate for.
