Will changing certain things in network settings make d/ling stuff on itunes faster?

Because yesterday I d/led 6 hd episodes of a tv series very fast and now today d/ling the rest, the results aren't quite as good. I don't understand what the reason could be.

Kinda figured that, was just hoping messing around with the settings could improve it a bit.

Just annoys me, because I have such a good computer I just got a couple months ago, and i'm not getting the d/l speeds I should be getting because of my isp.

Web browsing is always fine, but for downloading stuff, some days are really good and some days are so so.

It bottle necks depending on network flow, and peak times.
I think speedtest.net will show u ur speeds. Record your speeds, and if they are unsatisfactory call and complain.

Right now speedtest.net is giving me d/l speeds between 9-12 mbps.Which is the best I usually top at . Some other days it'll range from 3-7. I also have noticed the last 2 nights while d/ling the rest of the tv series I bought, it downloads much quicker during the late hours of the night. Around 7-10 pm, I don't get near as good results.

Between 7-10 is when EVERYONE goes on the net
Don't tell me u started a forum because, during 3hours out of 24 your HD content takes twice as long.
You have a non-issue

Maybe I overreacted a little, but the slower d/l speeds are happen in the mid afternoon as well. My best speeds are in the late night hours and overnight, but that's probably the case for everybody since not as many people are on in late hours of night as they are in the afternoon and the 7-10pm hours.

Some reason now, in the late night hours, I'm not getting those really fast d/l speeds I was getting the past 2 nights around this time. Maybe because it's a weekend night and more people are up at this time?

I'll try again tomorrow night to see if the results are better.

ISPs are often throttling downloads now anyway, regardless of whether it's a legal download or not. You are pretty much out of luck.

I can't really understand how people can accept that. If ISPs throttle your BW - switch to another!

Hehe, i fell quite privileged with my 100/100 mbit connection that i can max out at any time of the day. :p

On topic:
Yes, it is your isp that's the bottle neck and there's not much to do about it. Except for switching to another using another technology perhaps.

It could also be the server you are downloading from. May have nothing to do with you at all. Try Trace route and see if it bottlenecking between you and them also.

I would gladly switch to another isp. Thing is I still live at home because of my current situation with finding a job, and we have a triple play sort of plan with cable, phone and internet and the whole house is wired with Optimum. So I'm stuck with them until I leave the house. Optimum does offer more 2 other internet connections. One thats 30 mpb d/l and 6 upload and a 100 d/l 30 upload speeds. The 100/30 one is like 60 dollars more a month which I doubt I'll try but the 30/6 one is only 10 dollars more a month so I'm seriously considering going to that. Since were paying for 15/3 and the max I get is 11 d/l 2 u/p and that's only certain hours of the day.
