Here's what I think. I posted it to Tapulous's Get Satisfaction site too. Here's the link:

Here's what I wrote there:
Twinkle is my favorite iPhone app. I love it. I consider it iPhone's killer app. The reason Twinkle dominates all the other Twitter clients is Nearby. Because of how people are, Nearby is extremely annoying. Nearby is filled with one or two people who just FLOOD with replies to people about stuff we don't care about. I don't want to see "dante" talking to "QED" all day long about nothing.
They could simply turn off "Broadcast Location" in settings when they flood like this, or tap their location in each tweet before they post it to uncheck the location. But they don't. In fact, I've asked them. They're all a bunch of jerks.
What I want to see in Nearby are passers by on Interstate 5 who tweet about their road trips, or people tweeting about their day or night on the town, etc. Now, some people might want to see all of these replies, but I am not one of those people. So I submit to you my idea for Nearby.
Nearby needs its own settings. Show/hide for some things. Twinkle needs to have another feature for some of these to work, and that's that it needs to remember that some people have been "spotted" so to speak. Not everyone tweets just from Twinkle, so let's say I don't follow "dv3" but Twinkle picks him up in Nearby. When he goes home and tweets from Twitterific on his Mac, I would think he should show up in Nearby. I'm not sure how this would work with travelers though ... But it seems like a good idea to me.
Show/Hide:
*Rogue tweets (tweets by people that aren't @'s)
*Replies to Me from people Nearby (and known nearbys when tweeted from other clients, web and txt)
*Replies to Friends from Friends Nearby (or known nearby if turned on)
*Replied to Friends from Anyone Nearby (or known nearby if turned on)
Also, we need a Known nearbys on/off.
What do you guys think?
