Before upgrading to 10.8.1, I got notifications every time a tweet came in. I thought it was great, because I don't follow very many people and having the most recent tweets in NC and seeing them pop up as they came in was perfect for me.

I just realised it doesn't work that way in 10.8.1. Or, at least I can't make it work... Can anyone confirm my suspicions, or tell me how to activate notifications for all incoming tweets?

hello hafr,
it's not because of the update that you are sometimes not receiving twitter notifications, but it is because, for the time being at least, Twitter notifications in ML are only restricted to people you are following, and not from everybody who publicly @mentions you on Twitter.
nothing has changed since the last OS version.
I hope that in the next updates they will allow us to choose whether we want notifications from everybody or only from those we are following.

Cheers.

So I must have experienced a bug in 10.8.0 (?) then, since I did receive notifications for each and every new tweet in my feed. As in, every post made by WSJ for instance ended up in my NC.

I loved it, too bad it's not a "real" function then :) But I can imagine people following hundreds of people would be absolutely drenched in notifications...
