Does anyone else have an Apple ID for media and app purchases and then one for iCloud and switching to Apple One? I just signed up for Apple One, and it says "Your Apple One iCloud storage is currently associated with the account you use for App Store and media purchases. Select the account you want to use for this storage."

If I'm reading that right, the Apple One storage is associated with my iCloud Apple ID and it's wanting me to switch. Will this cause any data loss? Do I have to change anything on the Family Sharing side of things? Just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing before I switch over.

I guess I should cancel the Family Sharing 2TB standalone plan after this switch also. Thanks.

In case anyone was wondering, that’s exactly what I had to do and it worked fine. Everything switched over automatically when I changed the iCloud storage option from my purchase account to my iCloud ID. The iCloud storage plan canceled automatically as well, but I haven’t received any pro-rated refunds yet. I’ll wait that one out.

I just signed up and had no idea what they were on about and could not work out if Tried logging a support ticket via web form with apple but told for security reasons I must contact them direct. I have a iCloud account that originally started with Mobile Me back in the days when that could not be combined with an iTunes account which I had from iPod days. So I think my storage account is linked to my purchases account and I don't need to do anything. If I look in subscriptions now I can no longer see the 2TB storage plan I had before - but I can see my TV+, News and Arcade subscriptions which all say they will be included in the Apple One account. Sounds similar to what you are getting Zea but I have not switched the storage account to my Cloud account. Came here to see if anyone else had this and could explain what benefit or otherwise I would see in changing to the iCloud account.

Where did you do this in iOS? So do you still have two accounts? (I still need both - one for email on the icloud and my old itunes movies purchases)

did you initiate this on your itunes account then chose your icloud account for the storage?

thanks am in same situation

Go to Settings then click on your name. For me when I click on my name it shows a picture and underneath shows my iCloud login name. But just under the option for subscriptions it shows my iTunes login name which for me is different. Click on the subscriptions button and I'm pretty sure the option for subscribing to Apple One was listed there. Now I have subscribed to Apple One I click on the tile and it brings up a page where you can change your plan or manage iCloud storage accounts. That one asks me which account from my iCloud account , iTunes account (already selected) or any of my family members accounts to use for the storage. As far as I know I don't need to change it from the iTunes /Apps store and media purchases account.

Yeah, it's very confusing, they should've worded it better. I ended up changing my "storage" account email (from the location you mentioned) from my iTunes/App Store ID to my iCloud ID (old MobileMe), it switched instantly with no issues. I don't think I HAD to do this, but it's helpful because if I ever purchase an additional storage tier in the future, it says that that default storage account will move back to the iTunes/App Store ID - this lets you stack above the 2TB of storage if you want. If you are not showing 4TB and you don't see an additional storage plan in Settings > Tap your Profile Icon > Subscriptions or Settings > Tap your Profile Icon > iCloud > Manage Storage > Change Storage Plan (here, it should say "2TB from Apple One") with additional plans to stack on top, then it probably just automatically made that switch for you. I still wish they'd just let us merge Apple IDs so this doesn't get confusing each time there's a a change.

Yep! This is what’s happening to me too. Last night, about a week after signing up to Apple One, I got alerts that my iCloud storage was full. I checked and, sure enough, I was suddenly on the free 5GB plan, even though my family and I have been sharing a 2TB one for years. I followed the prompts to apply my old MobileMe ID (my primary Apple ID but not my iTunes/App Store one) to Apple One. It seemed to work but didn’t. I chatted to Apple support and, since it didn’t follow their script of what should occur, they just seemed confused and we went off on a hamster wheel of similar but unrelated issues and long holds before finding no solution. Throughout all this, I panicked and purchased 200GB for my main Apple ID, just in case I was at risk of losing anything. Also, I‘d received an alert that I’d no longer be able to receive email until I have more space. Strangely, this seemed to make the Apple One storage options ask for my password, so I thought buying that extra storage might have been workaround and finally work. No luck. It still reverted back to the iTunes/App Store ID but ALSO removed the storage I’d just paid for, sending me back to square one. It’s obviously a glitch on Apple‘s end that they’re not yet aware of or don’t know how to fix. If anyone else has any suggestions, I’d love to hear them.

I haven’t tried any further, to be honest. I’ve Googled the problem again a few times but didn’t want to keep going around in circles, so I figured I’d wait until my “free trial” of the Apple One services I hadn’t had before ended to see if that’s somehow causing the issue. That’s today, so I’m planning on trying tomorrow. Fingers crossed. ??

Exactly the same issue for me. Hours on the phone to senior advisors showing them the exact same problem you describe - the apple one premium subscription will not allocate the 2 TB of iCloud storage to my iCloud Apple ID despite me following the correct steps. Instead it cancels any existing storage plan and puts me on the free tier causing me to have email and other issues. My case has been passed to engineers for the 2nd time but I have heard nothing for over a week. I have been extremely frustrated by support who have tried to tell me what I want to do is not possible/I should add myself as an extra to my family plan and remove somebody else/just use 1 Apple ID for both etc..I have shown them the support documents that explain how it is possible to reallocate iCloud storage and exactly how to do it. They have recorded me following the exact steps from the documentation and can see the error message I generate and how this impacts incorrectly with the storage. To access my iCloud emails, I have had to subscribe to the 200GB family plan at an additional cost ( have been credited with this month). Despite lots of people trying to help, and them clearly seeing the issue, nobody has told me there is a bug/problem and they are trying to fix it. I have even sent them your post to show I'm not the only one . Will update if I get any follow up but I have lost faith that it is going to get sorted.

Don’t lose faith yet! Well, lose faith in Apple’s ability to work outside the predictable problem/solution flow chart. But don’t lose faith a solution may suddenly present itself. A few days ago, I received an email receipt showing that one member in my family had suddenly purchased additional storage, meaning they too had suddenly been booted off the shared plan through Apple One. At first, I panicked and thought, “Oh, here we go. More problems.” Then I decided to follow Apple’s steps again to see if anything had changed. Lo and behold, it finally worked! After a month of errors, supposedly scheduled support calls not happening and me signing up to extra storage only to have it reversed whenever I tried (and failed) to reassign the storage account, something just worked all of a sudden. If you haven’t already, try again... and good luck! ??

I’m still tempted to get in touch with Apple for refunds on the storage I shouldn’t have been forced to buy but it’s not worth the headache. They’ll just want to start back at the beginning of the flowchart and dismiss that anything went wrong. With smiley sounding voices, of course.

Hm. So if you had storage in use, live, as part of your iCloud account Apple ID, and that iCloud subscription gets cancelled when you allocate your Apple One subscription iCloud storage to the former ID, do you lose the data because of the cancellation? Apple Support advised I will... which means everybody who was a mobile me customer who became a paying iCloud storage customer will lose their data if they go to Apple One and actually want to save money by allocating its storage to the iCloud (former mobile me) account???

Sorry for the delayed reply. Thankfully, Apple seems to hold onto everything for a period of time and I don't appear to have lost anything each time their system messed up and downgraded me to 5GB without applying the Apple One storage. It's all working as it should now.

I'm in the same situation as most people here. If only Apple would make it easier!

I am using a total of 300GB (shared with my family) of storage in my 2TB iCloud ID. I also have an Apple One Family plan on my iTunes ID that comes with 200GB of storage. I intend to buy an extra 200GB to give me some headroom above the 300GB of storage I use. But I have not switched yet for fear of losing stuff. So my question is to those that have gone before me, what steps should I take? In the Apple One Subscription screen, under the Manage iCloud Storage Accounts, is it safe to just select my iCloud ID in order to allocate my 200GB of Apple One storage? I know it cancels my 2TB plan but will I lose the 100GB of date over and above the 200GB I'm allocating? How do I then purchase an extra 200GB and if I do so within 30 days does the 100GB of data remain and not get deleted?

An alternative strategy might be to upgrade to Apple One Premium to get 2TB of storage, allocate it to my iCloud ID, and then downgrade Apple One to Apple One Family. I would still be worried about losing that 100GB of data.

Lots of questions, sorry, but you guys have been though this process and I just want to be sure that it will work as described. Thanks.

This sounds a bit different to the situation I was in, since I only ever needed the 2TB provided via Apple One rather than a separately purchased top up, but I can assure you that all my data remained during the obstacles I encountered. It definitely seems as though Apple holds onto your data, at least temporarily, when your allowance lapses. Don’t quote me on that though as it’s just my personal experience.
