Hey all,
I've recently ordered a replacement headphone jack for my old iPod (it would only play mono, one of the contacts in the jack was bent back), and after opening it up and removing the hard drive, I was shocked to discover two blown parts (possibly capacitors?) on the board.

Apparently the heat was severe enough to melt the padding and silicone bumper

These two parts appear to be capacitors, if I'm not mistaken.
Despite these being blown, my iPod continues to function perfectly.

I've concluded that the incident that messed up the headphone jack and the incident that caused these to blow are separate. I believe the problem that caused this may have been water damage. The problem with the headphone jack was that my iPod was dropped while headphones were in it, and it fell on the plug.

Should I be worried about still using this iPod? I've used it in recent weeks with no problem, aside from the battery maybe somewhat losing its ability to hold a charge (but remember, this iPod is over 4 years old).

Thanks.
