If both my ipad and iPhone are set to store all original photos with iCloud and google photo backup is enabled on both devices, will photographs be uploaded twice and duplicated?

if one device is set to optimise storage, how do i ensure google uploads the best resolution?

Some how, Google Photos and iCloud photos work it out. Google will upload the full quality photo (if you have that option selected) and you’ll only have one copy of the photo uploaded. The only time I’ve had duplicates is when I’ve manually uploaded photos to Google from the web and then added those photos to iCloud Photos after.

So it’s possible to have both services.

I really only want to use google for the superior search.

Will “all photos” stay in sync between services? If I delete a photo on iCloud using my phone, will it then reflect in google!

I have done some testing and found that once google photos uploads an icloud photo automatically, you must delete the photo on google photos in order for it to also delete in icloud photos. If you delete a photo in iCloud that was already uploaded to google, it will remain in google.

Interesting is that you can use google photos to modify colour etc in icloud photos and still use iCloud’s “revert to original”. However this then appears to created a duplicate in google photos.
