So, like most of you, I have had an account through iTunes WAY before MobileMe or iCloud ever existed, so the first Apple ID I had, was used on my first generation iPhone and is still used to this day to make purchases through the app store/iTunes store. Well when MobileMe launched, I purchased it, and I have been using it since for email, and syncing, to the old cloud. Well now I have come to a crossroads, and I have come to you guys for assistance :) since Apple Express Lane Support, really is not helping at all.

The issue is where to start with iCloud, I get the whole idea but all my purchases are through my old Apple ID/email, and all my MobileMe stuff is synced with my MobileMe email, and the question is, where do I start since there is no way to merge these?

Use my old Apple ID/email address to send all my purchases to iCloud, then somehow add my MobileMe information that will also be sent to the cloud (If this is even possible)? I am at a loss, haha.

Use your old Apple ID for purchases, iTunes Store, App Store, etc. Set up the newer ID from MobileMe that you've transferred to iCloud on your iDevices and use it for Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Backups. You don't want to use the older ID for iCloud because it'll be limited to the free 5GB of storage which is only good for one device's backups. Your transferred MobileMe account has 25GB which should be more than enough to backup multiple iDevices and have a large photo stream.

Thanks! This makes complete sense! :)

I posted a similar thread here earlier, and was encouraged to see a new article just now on the MacRumors front page saying that they are working on a way to merge Apple IDs...

Personally, I have three (all legitimately under my name). Long ago, I used my @mac.com address as my Apple ID. Later, I started using my gmail address (oblivious to how important it was to have one unique ID). Finally, I subscribed to MobileMe and have a me.com ID.

My music is split between the first two, and my MobileMe/iCloud stuff is tied to the third... I just hope this supposed fix comes sooner than later. I just want to tie everything to my me.com address.

Okay this is weird... I swear there was an article on the MacRumors front page about 30 minutes ago saying how someone had e-mailed Tim Cook and got a phone call back from a PR rep saying they were working on a solution to merging ID's... And now I can't find that article anywhere. Did Apple silence them or am I missing something?

I promise it was there. Linked to a tweet as well as another article mentioning similar claims.

Gah, nevermind... It's late, and I'm an idiot. Was an old post:
