I am trying to set up 2FA from my ipad in order to eventually be eventually use apple emails on my Android phone.

I get to the security screen click on the Get Started for 2FA, I get an informational window pop up with a picture of an ipad and an iphone it says at the bottom " For your security two factor authentication can only be enabled from one of your devices.

I click Continue....then get more information on "How to turn on Two-Factor Authentication" 2 paragraphs each with 4 points, the first talks about the procedure if you have an iphone, ipad or ipod touch. The second talks about what to do if you are using a Mac.

I click OK and just get sent back to the initial security screen, in essence I am going around in circles.

Any idea what Im doing wrong?

I'm also curious about this because I'd like to be able to use my iCloud email account in a non-Apple email client even after I've switched to Linux and Android.

You have to get an app specific password from Appleid.com
I have my Apple/iCloud email on my Linux laptop using Thunderbird and works fine.

Can I use the same app-specific password on multiple machines?
