1) Is there any way to get the Finder to list folders at the top in List or Column mode? (I've gotten really used to this in my FTP client and really dig it.)

2) My iPod never shows up on my desktop, even though I've got that option clicked in the Finder prefs and the iPod is always sitting happily in its dock. It does show up properly in iTunes. Any way I can get it to show up as a volume consistently (er... at all)?

To get the iPod on the Desktop, check the iPod's options in iTunes. Make sure firewire disk mode is activated, other wise only iTunes can see it.

you can goto view-customize Toolbar.. in finder. Then add 'path' icon. it will give u a drop down list of folders. Is that what you were asking for, not sure :)

Thx for the iPod help -- I didn't have it turned on in disk mode.

As for the other... what I want, for example, in my Documents folder, for all the folders to be put at the top of the list before all of the individual files. So if something is nested a couple layers down, I don't have to scroll through each list looking for the appropriate folders -- the folders would be at the top of each pane. Kind of like an "arrange by" option. Speaking of which, why isn't there the option to sort by kind or size in column view? That's one of the most basic functions of a file browser.

Concerning the folders, I have never heard of such a function, and I doubt there is one built in, since Apple never mentioned such a thing when talking about the new Finder in Panther. I am almost certain that there was no such thing in Jag. You might be able to find a third-party hack from somewhere, but I have not heard of one.
