Hi!
I am new to the forum and will try my best to behave :)

I have two iMacs. "Old" has High Sierra, Os version 10.13.6, mid 2011. "New" has Catalina with Os version 10.15.7.
4 T LaCie external drive serves both drives as needed.

I use disc icons on desktop and click to open files when needed. Not sure finding shortcuts for disks.
After running Apple update i lost the desktop icons and links. External LaCie drive was not found, so on icon for that.

Then testing with "New" disk. None desktop icons at all, so LaCie is also missing this time.
Did Google a bit and used different search terms, but no luck!

I hope to get some advice to get the missing icons and links back!

Restart your Mac, leaving the LaCie drive attached to your Mac.
Does your LaCie show in the sidebar of a Finder window?
Go to your Apple menu, click on About This Mac.
In that window, click on the Storage tab.
Do you see anything about the LaCie drive in that list?

Does the Lacie appear in the list in your Disk Utility?

Feel a bit slow

No LaCie in sidebar. No reference to LaCie on storage. No reference in Disk Utility.

But all is not lost, even if I feel like DeltaMac' avatar !
Did the process over a few times, and now the LaCie icon shows!
Left is to get the disk icons to show on desktop. Tried primarysolutions tip, but did not find "Finder Preferances> General> "Show these items on the desktop"?

hmm... Click somewhere on the desktop, so you see "Finder" next to the Apple in menubar.
Click Finder, then click Preferences.
Under "Show these items on the desktop", Uncheck "External Disks", then check the same box. (off, then on)
Click "Sidebar", click External Disks until the check box clears, then click again until the check appears in that box.
That should do it, at least for the Finder.

Ha! Sorted!

Now both HD and LaCie Icons did come back and work! Problems solved! Thank you very much for your help 🤓
