I'm not sure if this is normal. I have an iPhone 3G with no data plan. WIFI only.

When the phone automatically locks, does it shut off the wifi? I find that immediately it is still connected, but after a few minutes when I check it, it's off and takes a few seconds to reconnect.

Secondly, I have mail setup (no fetch, IMAP). When I go to mail sometimes, it just hangs on the "checking mail" screen until I have to turn off WIFI, then go back to mail so it knows it can't connect. Then I turn WIFI back on and it finally checks it.

Is anyone else having these problems?

I do think the Wifi is active for a bit after the phone is put to sleep, but I have not seen any issues after waking up the phone.

On a separate note, how were you able to purchase a phone without a data plan? I thought you had to have the data plan.

Can you send txt messages?

O okay. It's just annoying sometimes since when I'm connecting to a HotSpot and have to log in, I can't leave the phone inactive or else it'll disconnect and I'll have to enter in my username again.

I'm with Rogers in Canada so they let you buy iPhones without data plans. Yes, I can send sms.
