Getting some conflicting reports on this. One person at Apple said that HDR on the XS is "always" "Smart HDR", and the option in the Camera app is simply toggling that on and off. Many articles state a specific difference between Smart HDR and "regular" HDR, mostly being nine exposures being taken versus three.
The option deep in the Settings for the Camera called “Smart HDR” — you toggle it on/off, along with “save original” — when it is off, it gives you the option to add HDR a la carte within the Camera app itself. But Apple is adamant that Smart HDR is a different technology than HDR — what we can’t find out is whether or not the HDR on my XS Max is ALWAYS “Smart” or only “Smart” when it is turned on via the menu and not on the app, making that “regular” HDR.
It seems strange that on the XS you'd have the option for "regular" HDR versus Smart HDR, right?
Are there two different kinds of HDR in my XS Max?
