I’ve relocated across country but stayed with the cellular provider from my former residence. Now it’s time to upgrade the iphone and change carriers. My current phone still works and I can’t port that phone number to the new provider. I would like to keep both phone numbers active for about a month just to make sure I manage to catch all the places where I have 2 step verification enabled and all the contacts know about the new number.

Is it possible to have two different phone numbers associated with one Apple ID?

Not a problem. I currently have two phone numbers assigned to my Apple ID and have had it that way for years. Just make sure one of the numbers is the primary.

I don't think that would be a problem, considering the recent iPhones support dual SIM.
Thank you. I’m not sure I understand the term “dual SIM”, but I was actually planning to have two phones on the same Apple ID. Sorry, I should have been more clear about that. I want to keep the old phone and number for about a month ‘just in case’, mainly to make sure I don’t find myself in a two-step verification problem. So there would be 2 iphones, each with a different carrier and phone number for about a month on the same Apple ID. And then I’ll erase the phone and close the account with the other phone provider. (I’ve already had the old phone unlocked and I’ll be keeping it as a backup after it’s erased.)

No worries. Dual SIM means one device has two SIMs, which means two phone numbers. So by this reason I believe there shouldn't be a problem having those two numbers associated with a single Apple ID. Thus having multiple iPhones to a single ID shouldn't be an issue as well.

And if I'm not mistaken, iMessage can also support more than one number.
