Two Qs: can I use a 65w adapter with my 11" and where to buy accessories like power

Adapters, mini display port adapters etc.

I've been looking at amazon and eBay for a second power adapter etc and they all hover around $28 or so. Not sure if there are better cheaper options before I pick one up.

Also my question about the 65w adapter is that I'm wondering if it will charge my battery faster. Thx

You can use a 65w or even an 85w one. But it will not charge the battery faster or damage the Macbook. The Macbook will only take as much power as it needs, not all that the power brick has to supply.

That is because the "Airline Adapter" doesn't have the ability to increase the voltage above that which is supplied. I believe that airline power ports put out 15 volts, and your car only supplies a nominal 12 volts up to about 15v maximum. The AC adapters put out 16.5-18.5 volts for all wattage models.

At around 15 volts there is enough voltage to operate the laptop, but not enough excess to supply a charge to the battery. At the nominal car voltage, there may not be enough voltage to even operate the computer.

I have seen at least one aftermarket power adapter which has voltage "step-up" capability to apply the appropriate voltage to the supplied magnetic power plug. It will operate with automotive, airplane, and standard AC inputs.

A cheap way to operate your Macbook in a car is to get a small power inverter to supply 115V AC and simply use your existing Mac power supply.

It's not called a Car Power Adapter is it? Your saying that because it is designed, branded, and advertised to do something it is silly because it will not do something that it was not designed, branded and advertised to do?

Don't get me wrong I haventz gotten used tom this ecosystem yet which BTW I Love my new MBA way more than my PC but it is silly that it doesn't work in the car otpr even charge on the plane for $50 despite what the name ofnit is

Not really, especially if you took the time to understand the reasons behind it. Did you miss the post earlier in this thread by hfg that explains way?

i did read it. I don't want to get in a pissing match, but my primary point is that there is a very real need to charge in a plane and in a car for which apple does not provide a solution.

Its ok though because i'm going to get the inverter as was suggested. That's a pretty cheap option.

I actually have one of the older Mikegyver Kensington 70W ones, and it works with car / air / home-AC input. It is a bit bulky due to all the cables supplied, although you don't have to carry the original AC power adapter as well. I don't think this one is available anymore on their store list. I have to admit it does look a bit DIY, but it does work. It is too bad Apple won't license the MagSafe power connector tip to the manufacturers of universal power adapters.
