Well, I've had my mbp for a few weeks now, and I have to say I'm pretty happy with it. I'm just struggling with two things right now, and have been for a few days.
1) I have a sound blaster extigy, and OSX detects it when I plug it in. However, I can't get any sound out of it. Nothing at all. I have volume control in OS X, but no sound at all gets played. I tried searching around here, and have read mixed results with this card, but I was also unable to find a good external 5 channel sound card while I searched. I know about the spif connector, but I have an external mixer with RCA inputs and I'd like to use OS X to DJ instead of XP.
2) I've been playing with different video playback software (VLC, Divx, Quicktime) and I've seen my battery life vary by as much as 50%, going from 2 hours to 3 based on the different software for playback. Divx has been the worst for me, and Quicktime was by far the best.
My question is, has anybody else experienced this? Keep in mind I haven't let the battery run all the way down during this experiment; I watched about an hour of movies between each software and watched the battery meter during that time. It's been fairly accurate for me for the few times I've drained it.
