[Two Questions] Mac Novice

Hello, I don't have a Mac yet, but would like to get one soon. It's going to be either one of these new Macbook Pros, or a Macbook if they get updated with C2D soon. Any idea if the MB will be updated soon?

First question, do you guys like the glossy or matte screen better? My friend has a glossy Gateway laptop and whenever he takes it in the car it's horrible, you can't see anything. I don't know if I'd want to have all that reflection just for brighter colors. What do you guys think?

Also, if I want to use an extra monitor with a MBP if I get one. Would the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB SDRAM be sufficient enough to use both the Dell LCD and the laptop monitor at the same time? So I can drag objects back and forth between each?

No one has a clue if/when the MacBooks will be updated to Core 2 Duo. If they are updated, rest assured it will happen before the holiday buying season starts.

Well let's see, I create websites every now and then, not as much as I used to. I manage/run a few sites along with a hosting one. I'm a full time student may take the laptop to class or just hook it up to my monitor.

What about the monitor question with the graphics card. Can I hook them both up?

I've seen more glare issues with people who use systems in bright light or outdoors. If that's not within your use case then you should be fine.

You'll be ok with the external monitor.

Ok, can you voice your opinion on it? What did you go with? And that wasn't my only question, I had others that's why I posted.

I have a glossy MacBook Pro and it is perfectly fine in the car. If you have a problem you can always adjust the brightness though. I also use a ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB SDRAM with an external display and it does absolutely awesome! I have had no problems at all with either of the things you said. I hope this helps!

Yeah, I know. I was just trying to help you without having to really type out a response of my own. Laaaazy.

From using the Macbooks in-store, and playing with friend's Macbooks, I believe that the glossy screens don't wash out as much outdoors in direct sunlight, or indoors under fluorescent light. But there's a glare when using it in either situation, so you have to take the bad with the good.

I used one in a car like your friend, and I had one hell of a time trying to find a sutiable angle to use it. It was a cloudy day though, don't know if that makes a difference.

If you're doing anything color-minded (editing photographs, illustration, etc.) it's best to opt for matte. BUT since you're hooking the Macbook up to an external monitor (which should work fine, btw), you can just double-check things like that.

The glare isn't insane, but if you have a problem with any type of glare at all, you might want to look at a different computer. Is it possible to go to a store to see a Macbook up close?
