After waiting two weeks I got my second SR MBP 2.2 Glossy in the mail today, and low and behold it has the exact same yellow tint at the bottom half of the display when viewed head on. I was ready to throw it against the wall I was so furious!!! It's one thing to have a different issue the second time, but I asked for an exchange for this exact problem and I get it again. Is there no quality control at their place in Shanghai? I'm beginning to wonder if they look fine over there and something is happening to it during shipping [temperature changes during transit depending on when it shipped perhaps?] because this is rather unbelievable... :apple:

Sorry for the thread, just had to vent! This is very frustrating.

They have both been Samsung "-8" glossy displays.

maybe they sent you the same one..

I read this from a few other threads complaining about this, im pretty sure it is true...

Under the screen, there is a yellow tape around the edges, so that if that is ever cut and you send it to apple care, they wont do anything and the warranty will be void, the light'ing from the screen comes up from under the yellow tape, and glows the yellow onto the screen, causing the yellow glow, one guy that had this problem went to the mac store, and they cut the tape, idk if they put on clear tape instead, or if they did that and made a note of it, so the warranty would still be good, or what...
I hear they are planning to change this in the next macbook pro, so no matter how many you go through, it will still be there, untill they change it

------>System Preferences----->Displays----->Color, try Adobe RGB or sRGB and see if it will make a difference.
I did, as I've also tried every profile I have found on this board. Changing profiles simply changes the tint over the entire screen, so the bottom half retains its discolouration. Some profiles do a better job of making it less noticeable than others but not enough.

The 9C68 Samsung panel (both matte and glossy) is becoming infamous for this problem. It seems more of them have the yellow lower-third than don't. Apple engineering really needs to acknowledge this issue and stop sourcing displays from Samsung until the problem is corrected.

I've read that as well, not sure if it was ever proven. If it has been, let me know and I will take my next machine if it has the problem to the nearest Apple Store or ship it to AppleCare to have them fix it. :)

[No offense to anyone] but the Catholic church is faster at acknowledging problems than Apple, I don't have all eternity. ;)

If this is the case, then I wonder why the LG panels don't seem to be affected by it.

Where did you hear that? The yellow tape theory is very unlikely, and there have been reports of people exchanging their yellow problem computers for new ones that have perfect screens. So, no, they do not all have them.

Sorry to hear about that. I've had two as well, both Samsungs, both with the yellow problem (second even has dead pixels), and it's frustrating. I'm going back tomorrow to get a refund, and buying a new Macbook Pro from another Apple store, and if it has the same problem, I may be done with Apple.

I have a question though. What was the build week for your computer? (The two digits after the #7 on your serial number)

Good luck!

They are affected as well. There was a great thread a few weeks back where someone was categorizing who was affected by both make and matte/glossy. The worst ratio of good to bad was found with the Samsung Glossy, however there were people in all four categories who had this issue. Because of this it makes me think the problem arises during final assembly or shipping. :apple:

Kilamite was the one who brought up this theory but we never heard back from his source to see if it were true. It is very unlikely, but it's still possible. :apple:

D'oh! I hear ya buddy. I would open the one they sell you in the store and boot it up to check for it before you even leave. If my third one has this issue I will take it to an Apple Store so someone else can see the issue in person and thus will be able to recognize when it is resolved. :apple:

Weeks 24 and 27 for the pair.

I know we keep looking for a common denominator for the yellow tint issue, but there appears to be none. :)

I know Kilamite brought it up in a thread a few days ago, but the poster above said that he's heard that they are planning to change this in the next MBPs. I'm wondering where he heard that.

That's the plan. I booted the second one up in store, but it had the same problem. The Genius told Apple Engineering about it, and said he'd keep in touch with me. So I took the computer home, but haven't heard a thing yet, so it's going back. Tomorrow I'll boot it up, and if it's no good, it won't be coming home.

shucks, I was starting to feel very optimistic about the later builds. I haven't heard much about problems in weeks 26+, but people also haven't been posting much about them. I just hope I get an LG, but knowing my luck, I'll get stuck with a Samsung for the third time in a row :(.

Our luck is bound to change soon, but lets hope it changes before we lose our patience.

Oo, that's really interesting. Mine is a 9C67 and it's totally perfect!

Same here. 9C67 and no yellow at all. I've filled my screen with various white/gray tones and compared top to bottom very carefully. There is no perceptible tint present. I also had a few folks around the office double check me. All I got were compliments on how bright and even the screen looked. :D

Update:

Hello all, just wanted to let you know how it all ended. I got number three in the mail on Monday, for the third time in a row a Samsung display. This one has just a very minimal yellow tint to the bottom half, but nothing near as bad as the first two. So it's a keeper! :)

I'm happy this worked out in the end but waiting seven weeks to get this machine sorta sucked the fun out of my $2,000 purchase.

Glad you're happy with it but its disappointing that there are still screens out there with the issue.
