I’ve been using this one daily since mid Feb, it’s superb and works seamlessly with everything I’ve thrown at it

There has been a concern about USB-C hubs with passthrough USB-PD power which has kept me for using (or needing to) use the Anker one I have.

Dead M1 Mac with USB-C Multiport Adapters

macOS 11.2.2 release notes included this statement:

"macOS Big Sur 11.2.2 prevents MacBook Pro (2019 or later) and MacBook Air (2020 or later) models from incurring damage when they are connected to certain third-party, non-compliant powered USB-C hubs and docks".

So all should be OK now, but I am watching out for any reports. There was one at the end of that Reddit thread but not clear if he was using 11.2.2

This thread has a lot of recommendations.

Many of these devices do have USB-PD capability, but of course you don't have to plug the it in. But I am not sure if/how well they work without power. Going to try my Anker Without power.

Anyway the USB-PD problem is supposed to be solved now.

My Anker is like 7 in 1 Premium with Ethernet but mine does not have the Ethernet. I have had it a couple of years. Anyway it seems to work fine with two Samsung T5 connected and copying data between them, without the USB-PD connected. In the Amazon page questions, someone asked about HDMI without power and was told by three people that it was OK.

EDIT.. mine is this one: https://www.anker.com/products/variant/usb-c-hub,-7in1-usb-c-adapter/A83460A1

EDIT the two Samsung T5 test was done without power to the Anker hub, or to the other port on the M1 MBA.

In my opinion low powered devices like external ssd, external hdd, wireless keyboard + mouse and also flash drives will work without power connection.

Probably i will buy anker 7in1 too. I trust this brand. But anyway i will not use it for charging.

So far i have only had luck with storage connected to usb-a on my hub. Keyboard and mouse does not work. Don't know if that is general or my hub. I have not seen any difference in functionality, if power delivery goes through the hub or not. Display output, ethernet, sd-card and usb storage all work.

Probably a radio signal interference.

Try disable wifi or change it to 5 ghz.

Anyone aware of any type-C hubs that have 10G ethernet built-in?
Best I found is a 5Gigabit adapter. I think it is a matter of bandwith. USB 3.2 is 10Gigabit minus overhead. But you can get 10Gigabit thunderbolt 3 adapters, even dual 10Gigabit.

I have this one and so far very happy. Doesn't have HDMI (or any video for that matter) built in, but does have three outgoing TB3/4 ports on the back, so you can plug a USB-C to HDMI dongle into one of the TB ports on the back. I've got a USB-C to DisplayPort dongle connected and works perfectly.

I’ve been using a Caldigit SOHO USB-C dock with power delivery for more than 3 months with both the Apple power adapter and for the last month with an Anker power delivery adapter with no problems. The threads here covering the problem have gone silent and no new thread has been created. I think the problem is resolved.

I've been using a NOVOO 5 in 1 USB-C Hub with my 2019 Macbook Pro for over a year now, and I have not had any problems with it. There is also a larger 8-1 Hub if you want more ports and features like an Ethernet, USB-C PD, and more USB 3.0 ports.
