I bought a USB-C 8k bi-directional data/video/pd switcher, so that I can plug in a work laptop, and swap back to a mac studio on my studio display without constantly unplugging things from the back of the studio. The mac studio works just fine. But on my MBP, plugged into the left side ports (either one) the display will randomly blank out and apps will re-layout on the screen, true tone will reset, so it is a very jarring experience. Sometimes it will flash four or five times in a few seconds. Other times it will be fine for a while.

But then I tried plugging into the right side port...and it seems to be working fine now.

I'm thinking I might be running into the odd issue of the left side ports thinking they are overheating? Then it must reset the port?

Overall I'm fine with plugging into the right side, but it is just a bit of an odd quirk (This is an M1 Pro MBP.) Anyone else experience this or know why it might be happening?

Nope - spoke too soon, the right side port just started having the same issue, just seems like it takes longer to happen.

I tried running with both displays open (Laptop + studio display) - the computer slightly freezes for a second when it happens, audio continues running fine but playing video dropped a few frames.

Seek out another USB type C hub but ideally from a good brand name. They are not all created equal. Do review the customer feedback and best if you post a compatibility question and share your current feedback. Amazon is a good source where it can be returned if the product misbehaves. Not all designs are created equal.
