I'm finding it very annoying when I'm trying to type in AIM and it thinks I'm trying to ignore the spelling of a word because I'm trying to type a letter that is near the spell suggestion bubble. It makes me constantly miss letters and mispell things. Anyone else notice this yet? Did they TRY the app before submitting it??

I find it very hard to believe that this doesn't happen to anyone else. Anyone?

that isn't AIMs fault, that is the iPhone firmwares fault.

It's the iPhone firmware's fault for the poor auto-correction.

It's AIM's fault for even implementing the auto-correction...but overall I'm guessing it's better to put it in than to not.

I'm not convinced it is. Take a look at SMS.app, its spelling suggestions appear above the text field. Also note how (1) the text field is smaller than SMS, including the text; and (2) the field does not "grow" as you type more than a line or two, a la SMS.

AIM has a ways to go before becoming a killer chat, but I'm also awaiting the as-yet-unannounced Adium.

It's NOT the iPhone's fault. Alll AOL has to do is make the bubble appear above the text like in the SMS app and then it won't close when you type on the top portion of the keyboard. With the update, I figured they would have fixed this issue (I'm assuming the AOL people who made this had used it too) but, nope it's not fixed. It gets really annoying and it makes me not want to use the AIM app and use a web app instead... at least with the web-apps, I can type correctly. I find it really odd that out of ALL the reviews on this App, I saw only one other person say something about the auto-correction bubble getting closed accidentally.

Maybe cause none of us have actually missed the key and closed the auto-correction. :/

idk why everyone has problems with AIM. it works perfect for me every time i use it. i only have one problem with it and that is that you can't use the keyboard in landscape mode. it's way easier to type in landscape mode.

I can do this in slow motion: I can perfectly position my finger right on top of the key and it STILL closes the suggestion bubble if it's one of the keys directly under it.

Weeird...

Well, while developing has always placed the bubble in the right spot for me, I don't know fully if there's a way to make the bubble appear on the top.

Happens to me too! I HATE it! But I'm just dealing with it until MobileChat 3 is approved by Apple and released to the App Store.

I just talked to the guy who is developing MobileChat and he said it's a flaw in the SDK and that he (Twenty08) hasn't been able to figure out how to fix it, but he knows about the issue and will fix it as soon as he can. So the first version of MobileChat could very-well have the same typing issue as AIM unless they do something different to work around this problem.

Another thing I noticed, if you hit close to the bottom of the keys, you won't close the bubbles as much. So for anyone who isn't experiencing this, maybe you're not aiming for the center of the keys, but more towards the bottom.

another difference between AIM and SMS typing:

If you are typing the last word and it has an auto correction suggestion and hit send before hitting space AIM will NOT send the suggested word, but instead the one you typed. Whereas SMS sends the suggestion.

I really really really really wish Apple would make an iChat app for the iPhone that has a similar interface as SMS. That would totally rock!
