Usually when I know I have to type something longer than a few words, I connect my Magic Keyboard and fire away. But more often I am on the couch with iPad (Pro 11”) in hand using the software keyboard.

I have had iPads since the very first one, but don’t remember ever having such issues typing using the software keyboard. What seems to happen is that I do some key combination which highlights the last word/words automatically, I then hit space for the next coming word and what I just wrote gets deleted.

This key combination only seem to happen when I am typing too fast which make it even more annoying. Does anyone know what is going on here? Is configurable? Have checked the keyboard settings, but can’t say any of the listed settings gives a clue to what could be changed to get rid of this.

Tried to record a movie of it happening, but of course now I could not make this happen.

I've noticed the same thing on the current "normal" iPad. I agree, it seems to have got worse recently but I'm not entirely sure why. At least the undo button is there which helps, but its incredibly annoying.

What happened to the split keyboard?

That happens to me a lot on my new 11 and I often don’t notice because the onscreen keyboard takes up so much space. I try to use the mini swipe keyboard but sometimes I just want that split keyboard like on the Mini.

This doesn't happen to me. When I'm typing on screen, I'm usually standing, and I'm using the floating keyboard, text swiping with an Apple Pencil, and this works well. I still prefer a type cover or magic keyboard, though.

Swiping on the floating mini keyboard has worked almost flawless here. It is typing in portrait mode I seem to have the most issues.
