So I banked on the assumption that reserving an iPad is quicker than ordering it online. Seems like that is the going opinion.

So I reserve a 32g 3G at the Apple store in Tyson's Corner VA. The only reason I ask is because I see there are a lot of people on here from either DC or northern VA.

I know different stores have different priority as far as shipment, but I heard that the Tyson's store was the first Apple retail store, so one would think they might have larger shipments. But does anyone know how long the reserve wait is for the iPad at the store? I reserved mind on Tuesday.

I keep checking all the Best Buy stores within a big radius, and have yet to see any come in on their website.

I wish Apple would bring another Factory online to make them faster. :)

What did the store manager say when you asked him/her?

I didn't talk to the store manager, I asked a few of the workers there. I figured they would know the same as the manager being as they sell the things every day.

The few reps I talked to wouldn't say any amount of days, all they said was they could not guarantee that reserving it in the store would be any quicker than ordering it online. I can understand why they said that, being is if they give someone a timeframe and it doesn't happen they are going to make people mad, so they just decided to give a neutral answer.

But a few other apple stores I called just seeing if they had any in stock said it is "usually" 2 or 3 days wait time by reserving.

I just figured someone one here might have some experience getting a reserved one from my area to give an opinion.

Are you saying they don't have them in stock???

I feel lucky then because I got my wife's 3G on the day of release with virtually no line. There was one person ahead of me and I would say I was in and out in about 15 minutes.

I thought that I was told once that they get shipments twice a week usually. Du ring special events like the iPad release of something, there may be an extra shipment during that week.

Things may have changed since this was a year or so ago that I heard this information.

I would call and see if a manager could give you a better date.

FWIW, most Apple Stores get shipments daily, expect for Sunday. iPads may or may not be in those shipments.

It's difficult for inventory control specialists/managers to accurately tell what they're receiving when. They can look at the inventory system and see what's heading their way, but the delivery date that it will arrive isn't always accurate, so they generally will tell customers/employees that they don't what's coming.

The whole reservation system is automated. As soon as the iPads are confirmed received at the store, emails are automatically sent out to the appropriate number of people on the reservation list (based on the stock received).

It's actually a fair bit of work for a manager to make an educated guess at the wait time, thus the general answers.
