U-verse Enabled XBox 360

Not being one to pay to much attention to Microsoft's other software developments (in this case, MediaRoom), I was surprised to learn today that my U-verse is the brainchild of Microsoft. With the introduction of MediaRoom2 and the promise that my XBoxs can be used as STB, I am having trouble finding where my ATV will soon fits in. I was hopeful with Apple's rumored subscription TV service, but considering how wonderfully my U-verse works, I can not see that now. The U-verse VOD are sometimes more expensive, but they are instant when I do choose to rent one. Unlike ATV, which even with 18 Mbps internet, sometimes takes a few minutes to start.

Thankfully Microsoft has been playing nice with the Mac lately. Silverlight works on macs, and I have no doubt the MediaRoom2 Cloud DVR service will work on the iPhone as well.

Who can ignore one device in your living room that will let you watch and record TV, play games, rent and movies and TV shows, and buy music? I fear that MS has crushed Apple in the living room. Just imagine how much more cool this will all be with Natal. No damn remotes... I give props to MS on this.

you're forgetting one key fact: Its only for U-Verse customers, which is currently, a very very small set of 360 owners.

(I'd love it by the way, but of course, not U-verse where I live).

The only problem the 360 has is that the Itunes store has much more and better content than the Zune store, it also is painless when used for streaming (easily sends purchased material back to your media pc), on the 360 it a pain as your HD fills up and up have to manually copy stuff back to another PC.

Other than that and profile and noise, 360 has ATV beat (mostly due to the Netflix app, which is 100% awesome)

Two things the 360 is LOUD will never fit into a true tv setup. Also they still RROD somewhat often I have went through a few elites myself and if it happens you can wait a while for a replacement hopefully a new atv will be out soon only thing the 360 is good for is codm2 and a slim version of facebook.

I have had Uverse for over a year and like it a lot.
I have a 360 and don't even like using it to play dvd's because it is too loud. I dont think I would enjoy having my xbox 360 on to watch tv.

Good idea, but not practical. I guess it will be better when they come out with newer versions of the xbox.

I can understand the fear of a loud xbox, but having 3 of them I can vouch that the new ones are quiet, unless you put a disc in them. My oldest one is very loud, but I also got it the week the 360 was released. My newest one is practically silent.

The only thing I fear is leaving my xbox on for hours at a time.

I can understand the fear of a loud xbox, but having 3 of them I can vouch that the new ones are quiet, unless you put a disc in them. My oldest one is very loud, but I also got it the week the 360 was released. My newest one is practically silent.

Very true. I have one of the first ones so thats why its loud. I'm not going to buy another one till it dies.

They do draw a lot of power compared to a regular set top box. I dont know why they just dont make a Uverse box with a dvd player?

For the same reasons why AppleTV doesn't come with one or with a BlueRay player:

It's not the fuctionailty of a U-Verse box to play DVDs...just to play AT&T-delivered content.

Sure all-in one would be nice...then one would argue why TVs don't come with U-Verse functionailty as well as a BlueRay drive and full DTS/7.1/AC3....etc processing with all the various speaker amps inside to drive your entire system.

Problem with an all-in-one set-up is that it may not be best for all...or even most people. I have DirecTV, but what if I wanted to switch to Dish or U-Verse in the future/ New TV/all in one box? PLUS if one part of the system breaks down, you would need a new TV/all in one.

My newest one is practically silent.

Possibly compared to the old one, but it is nowhere near as silent as any other machine I have, including a Dell Insprion 531. My 360 Elite (from around 8/2009) has a constant whine to it.

I totally agree, with that point why let us use out 360 then?

Actually, the announcement got me researching into MS MediaRoom, at which point I read that Microsoft approached various cable and telecom companies about using the technology.
