First off i have a U2 Video iPod as u can see in my sig.
Because the not so new "new" classics are "thiner" than the 5th gen iPods i was thinking i could buy one of the 120GB HDD and pop it into my iPod.

Will this work without changing the back

It should, because they use the same sized drives. You might have to move some foam suspension around though. That said, it wouldn't run the newer firmware, and wouldn't be a cheap exercise.

I know it wont run the new firmware i just want the space. i am a self proclaimed Audiophile and have so much music:D

So the connectors are the same?

the connectors are the same. they're both PATA ZIF (zero insertion force) connectors.

so the connectors are the same and it will fit

just one las forum check before i spend loads of money

any other info i should know

take the ipod apart with a guitar pick. CAREFULLY. unplug the connector cable to the head jack, and hold switch first. Otherwise you could damage it. Do that first.

i am gonna use the disassembly tools cuz i dot wanna risk a guitar pic cuz i did that to my last iPod and scratched it all up

Y do i need to open it first?

Ok so i have been analyzing the pictures on iFixit of the iPod HDD attachment point and it appears to be the same so I think i am going to move on with this project. I will be replacing the 5G screen with a 5.5G screen wile i have it open as well. My one question; Will the firmware on my iPod run the 120GB iPod Classic HDD?

I have attached photos of the attachment below, first one is the Classic the second one is the 5G video
