Hello,

Just started using uBar.
Sure do wish their documentation was more complete.

a. How can I tell if I am looking at a Dock View, or a Task Bar View ?
How do I switch between ? Pros, Cons, and limitations of each ?

b. Which, or both, views allow a true pinning of the icons, so they will re-appear when restarting.
How do I "pin" items ? Pinning doable for Documents, APPS, and Alias's ?

c. Which, or both, views allow for the 5 extra bars to provide more space for items ?
How do I get another bar to show ? Doable in DOCK or Task Bar views both ?

d. I tried dragging a WORD doc. to the bottom bar, which I think, but am not sure,
is a Taskbar View. It wouldn't let me. Any idea why this might be ?

Am in my 80's now, and frankly, I miss a lot of the nuances these days.
But, truly, the documentation isn't all that complete, IMHO.

Hate to fill up the Forums with my dumb questions. Really.

Is there someone who might be willing to work with me off-line on all of this ?
Would be most appreciative.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi,

By default, uBar is setup to work as a task bar:

But you can also set it up to look like a dock:

There are two buttons that do this automatically for you in the preferences, by checking and unchecking the options that are already presented to you on that page. So pinning works either way.

And to do that, you either want to right-click on your item in the Finder and select Add to uBar Favorites (at the bottom of that list), or just drag it on uBar itself just after the Desktop icon. Yes, they will appear after a restart and can be documents, alias, or apps.

The reason why your Word document probably didn't work is that you dragged it over an app that isn't setup to open a file if you were to do the same on the regular macOS dock. Not seeing a tooltip would be an indicator of that.

To resize the bar, you put your cursor on the top edge (try this between two icons), hold down your mouse, and drag up.

Brawer Software has a support desk over at their website if you don't have any luck with your additional questions here.

Hi Jessica,

Thanks so much for the info.
Really appreciate the time you took to write it.
Really helpful. At my age now, I really need all the help I can get with this. First MAC.

The uBar folks have been truly "no-shows" re answering any, and I mean any, questions.
I wrote a bunch of eMails to them, even the simple first one re a question if my Registration went thru ?
Absolutely no responses. Only that dumb "we are working on it"

Will probably vent my frustration with them here, one of these days.
They spend a zillion hours coming up with a nice piece of software, then mess it all up by no
customer service, or farming it out to some third-party outfit that is incompetent.

Hard to understand.
