I agree. I still have my trusty Dell Mini 9 that keeps on ticking. I'm really eager to see if any of these tricks make it to the desktop version.

I think Ubuntu is going to use a global menu in 10.10. They're copying the Mac. :p I like the look of this Unity, though, and I think I'll give it a go when it's ready.

I tried it in VMWare. It needs some optimisation (but it could be a graphics driver issue). Clicking on the ubuntu logo gives you a nice expose view.

The big problem is once you get out of the launcher environment you enter the world of desktop applications which aren't really designed for typical netbook screens.
