I have a dell workstation I bought last year to transition to windows. I'm still not using it much so I decided to take 32G of ram from that workstation to put in my mac pro. The dell uses ecc reg dimm 1333. I was reading the mac pro manual and it said to use udimm ram. Can I still put the ram from the dell in the mac pro even though it's reg dimm?

I assume you are talking about the 4,1 / 5,1. Yes, you can, you just can't mix UDIMM with RDIMM. The cMP can boot and function normally with pure RDIMM.

Anyway, I am using it now. You can click the link in my signature (the RAM part), that's the exact RAM stick I am using now. A RDIMM.

Yes have 5,1. Thanks for the info. I good to know I can save money by just transferring the ram.
