Every time I go to the App Store, its so disappointing to see crap like "Moron Test" still on the top sellers...

I'm waiting for the goodies like TomTom and Meebo... anyone else with me?

Is there a site out there that will show you the release dates of iPhone apps? :)

The only apps that I can recommend without feeling like a **** are:
Omnifocus (only if you use the desktop version)
BeeJive (but who uses IM clients these days?)
Twitteriffic (only if you REALLY use twitter)
jaadu vnc (only if you like to check what's going on with your computer from the couch)

I was sort of thinking we were going to get a bombshell of high-quality apps come 3.0's release but I suppose they're all still under review.

Though I agree, the Free apps are all soooo terrible it's pathetic. I don't even check them anymore.

Yeah, the free ones are a joke at this point, sadly.
I guess they're all pending review still... oh well.

I guess we just have to wait longer. Could have developers had the chance to begin producing new apps since the first beta? That is, have the developers had all the new APIs since the first beta to begin on something? Or, is it just now (after the release of the GM) that developers could start making all these new snazzy apps?

why make useful apps when you can make a stupid lame ass one, sell for 0.99, hope it becomes popular and be downloaded 500,000 times over?? easy money there... that's the direction i would take if i knew how to make apps.

but from a consumer standpoint, yeah, most apps suck.

Skip the 'Top 50' and head to Staff Favorites or New and Noteworthy. Or a site that you trust.

Now re release dates, are you talking about UPCOMING apps? It's not that easy. I wish Apple would let developers know when they're coming out. I have three in review, including one for 5+ weeks. At least my delay is not as bad as Newber (see http://www.MyNewber.com for their 200+ days in review ticker)

Don't know of an app that does that, but have you heard of Pandora Box?

It shows new apps released in the last 24, 48, and 72 hours. Splits them up so you can view free or paid.

Also shows apps that have been reduced in price. Also in the last 24, 48, and 72 hour.

I love this app cause a lot of times apps are released for free for the first couple of days, and you can try them out without wasting money.

Anyway, this is the closest thing I have seen to what your are asking for.

One question that I've been dying to ask is.

How come the crappiest apps are the most downloaded. Are the majority of iPhone users 13 years old?

I mean, Apple should have an App Store and a Game Store. The App Store could have actual apps that have a purpose and the Game Store could have all the games and gimmicky apps (like Need For Speed and Fart apps). I think if they split it up, you could actually use the App Store for what it's meant for... APPS! Right now it seems like Crap Store.

Anyone with me?

The Sirius Xm app is good. Be careful. It is addictive and the listening is only free for seven days. Has bad ratings because Howard Stern is not included -- whatever.

Pandora is good in a different ways and will not end in seven days.

I also use the Weather Channel app a lot.

(and these are just the free apps)

I don't think those of us who're paying for commercial games want the fart apps in our store anymore than the people downloading "serious" apps. :p (Actually, I do both... I dunno. Maybe Apple needs a "novelty" section that can be blocked by the user. )

The thing is, Apple goes for simplicity. Why make things more complicated and add another App Store? I personally think the layout of how things are now are fine. Although, I do agree that the Top 50 Apps are plain bad. I mostly just go to the Categories and find what I need there. Thankfully, Games are in a whole different position in the store. And each section has its own top apps.
So, the system is fine as it is :)
