Hopefully someone can help. I had to get a replacement so I am running 2.2.1 of a fresh restore. Nothing on it. I have the phone hooked up via usb hub (running 10.5.6). I get to the last process and the screen just stays on white and nothing happens. I am now on my 2nd time restoring in the past 20 minutes.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

No I havent. I saw how easy quickpwn is so I figured go that route. It all goes smooth but gets stuck on a white screen when using you see the apple logo then the pineapple doing its thing.

Should I give Pwnage a shot?

Yeah, I don't know what's up but a lot of people have been having a problem like this with the latest QuickPwn. It's sad, but Pwnage is a great tool and I've never had any problems with it. No harm in trying it!

I just dloaded the file and I'll give it a shot. I'll check back in a few minutes. Wish me luck :D

This is crazy, I don't get it. That was a failure as well. I am restoring as we speak. I sound like a noob but I'm not when it comes to computer kind of stuff. I just have the feeling this 10.5.6 and usb hub thing really isn't working.

Any other suggestions from anyone? Believe it or not, all I want to do is put my custom themes on my phone again.

I can only think that my comp is 10.5.6 and this usb hub just isn't cutting it for me.

Well tonight=FAIL

Let me ask you guys this...can I use my girlfriends Macbook that has 10.5.4 Or do I need to have my device hooked up with itunes as well?

All the help is appreciated. My phone looks ugly with boring icons and a black background. Please help me.

That is my last option because 10.5.6 with usb hub is NOT working for me.

This may help you, it's from the Dev Team blog:

Fixing DFU mode on 10.5.6

As noted previously OS X 10.5.6 introduced a bug that affected the use of DFU mode. with some Macs. There have been previously published hacks and techniques to fix this, but here is another method that can be used to temporarily restore DFU functionality in order to use QuickPwn or PwnageTool.

1. You will need an account with ADC (Apple Developer Connection) this is free and takes a few minutes to sign up, you should read the terms and conditions carefully and you should only sign up if you are thinking of developing applications in the future - http://developer.apple.com/mac/
2. Download the disk image “IOUSBFamily-315.4-log.dmg” for Mac OS X 10.5.5 Build 9F33” (yes, that is a “5” in 10.5.5 - this is a developer debug package of the USB kernel extension).
3. Unplug non-vital USB equipment, such as external DVD writers, USB scanners, USB mass storage devices, at the most leave a Keyboard and Mouse connected.
4. Install IOUSBFamily-315.4.1.pkg from within the disk image
5. Reboot your system!
6. Perform necessary DFU activity with QuickPwn or PwnageTool.
7. Download the disk image “IOUSBFamily-327.4.0-log.dmg” for Mac OS X 10.5.6 Build 9G55”
8. Intall IOUSBFamily-327.4.0.pkg from within the disk image
9. Reboot your system!
10. Reattach your USB peripherals.

I read very bad things about this patch from other people and was not really recommended.

Anyone else know what I can do?

Can I use the Macbook with 10.5.4 or does it have to be my cpu with itunes?

nobody has done a jailbreak 2.2.1 on Mac 10.5.6?

this is driving me nuts since I never had problems before. my cheap crappy hub is crap

I used quickpwn on my 3g using my iMac with 10.5.6 installed and plugged in through this hub. The only time I ever had a problem was when I had too much stuff on the phone (apps and media), but since yours is freshly restored, then I don't know.

You can just run quickpwn on your GF's MB. Then just sync with your computer after the JB is done. If your phone is clean (nothing installed), just plug into the MB and close itunes when it opens. Run quickpwn and then plug into your computer and sync. It only has to be your computer when you sync in iTunes, quickpwn doesn't need iTunes.

Thanks man. I think I've finally know why my hub wasn't working. Another forum gave me some input. Is that belkin a AC POWERED usb hub? I was using just a plug in hub and that's most likely why I was getting failures.

Thanks for the tips on the alternate way. I wanted to test the device so I added my sync (music, photos, apps) through itunes. Do I have to restore it again and then go use her Macbook?

Thanks for the help man, I appreciate it

Yea I'll do a restore. Is that Belkin hub a AC Powered hub? I think that's why mine wasn't working. Not enough juice the crappy hub I have.

Yeah, powered USB 2.0. Should work fine on your 10.5.6 machine if you can get a powered hub.
