At first I successfully downgraded to 1.1.1 with iTunes 7.4 and Leopard but Independence would never work despite multiple attempts.

So I went over to a Tiger machine with 1.1.1 ready and before I knew what had happened Independence must of activated my phone and I was on a new style of screen on the iPhone, earth wallpaper "iTunes Activate" or something.

I wasn't sure what had happened though so thought maybe its best to start fresh, restore 1.1.2 again on Leopard machine and then begin at step one on Tiger. Obviously this was a huge mistake as after it loading 1.1.2 back on it looks like I'm stuck with it.

I've went ahead with the rest of the intructions *#307# etc and managed to get my wi-fi working and onto jailbreakme.com but because I'm on 1.1.2 it doesn't install. You can see one of those tiny blue square question mark icons.

I'm really worried I've ****ed up and wondering if its fixable or will I have to wait weeks for a solution to appear. :(

did you try putting the ipod into recovery mode then in itunes done the options key held down then restore button pressed in itunes and selecting the 1.1.1 restore file?
