So Apple have finally dropped the invite for MacBook Pro event so I thought it high time to get a UK specific thread for those looking to order these as the become available.

I'm more used to the annual iPhone purchases and not ordered a MacBook on launch before so I'm pretty excited! even more so after selling my 13" 2019 MBP earlier this year anticipating these new Macbooks to have launched this summer!

looking forward to seeing some new and familiar faces in the UK community (and anyone else who fancies to join in!)

What can be expected?
  • New 14" and 16" Mini LED Display
  • M1X Apple Silicon with 10 cores (8 high efficiency, 2 performance)
  • Support up to 64GB RAM
  • 'Flatter Edge' Design with:
    • Magsafe charging
    • USB-C Ports
    • HDMI Port
    • SD Card slot
  • Removal of Touch Bar
  • Upgraded 1080p Webcam

Had actually ruled myself out of this upgrade but recent developments and changes in my workflow have peaked my interest. Maybe… just maybe I’m in for the base model 14 inch

Very likely the 14", even though I answered "undecided" in the other thread. Still undecided about 16/32GB. Most likely 16, out of experience. I bought an 8GB 13" MBP in 2013 and used it for 6 years, vs a 64GB 16" which I used for a bit over a year so far and I'm ready to replace it ? 1-2TB storage. Probably 2, as I suffered more with storage problems on the 13" than with RAM problems.

if the base does start with 16GB then I would be pretty tempted to double that. I do feel 512GB SSD would be sufficient, but I wouldn't be in the market to change the machine often so may get the 1tb.

though saying that, its currently £200 for 8GB more on the current 13" M1, so £400 to get to 32gb on the M1X? and £200 more for the additional 512GB SSD.. this is going to get pretty expensive quickly!

what are the rumoured starting prices? £1699?

Yeah, I guess that in pounds. The same as the current top Intel 13" models. I prefer storage over RAM myself. 8gb got me a looong way doing development. And I'm currently nowhere near 16gb doing Logic with software instruments, samples and plugins. But storage is always tight with a 24mp camera and a music collection.

Would like 14” with 32/512 config but paying £400 for an extra 16gb ram is hard swallow. I wonder when we’ll be able to order? Can’t wait btw, first time I’ve been excited by an Apple event in a long time! hope you all get what you want/need and it arrives before Christmas ?

Base M1 MacBook air. Really need to move up to 16gb and increase storage. By the time I spec those out I may as well go pro for a future without dongles, and the rumoured screen improvements. Not to mention the extra horsepower. I’m thinking £1799/£1899 starting point
will defo be tipping £2500 with the extras!

I'm inclined to agree, the reality is the base (if 16/512) would be sufficient for me.. its the FOMO and regret that gets you

Anyone here thinking now that they ditched intel that the prices will be lower like the 13” Air and Pro? And ProMotion did not raise the base iPhone 999$ price tag. I don’t know, maybe it’s wishful thinking?

Naw....these are highly highly coveted items....

I bet release in early Nov....announce it now and they will be released in early Nov....

Or maybe, since they have been stockpiling since the summer, they could be coming out on Friday next week as well....

Who knows!

I’ve never ordered straight after / on an event so this is completely new for me.

I’m thinking I will opt for the 16inch 32gb ram and whatever the standard ssd will be. Not expecting too much change from £3000. This needs to be lasting me a few years so id rather fork out a little extra on top where ram is involved.

Why 16 inch ? Well at 45 my eye sight is already going downhill so I figured go large and proud.

What I may also do is arrange for collection from the Meadowhall Apple store to ’complete’ the experience. Sad eh ! ?

Can’t quite remember if built to order combinations could be collected in store or not. At least the custom orders should get the full track from the Far East ‘fun’ compared to the phones from the midlands!

Finally… an upgrade for my 2017 13” Touch Bar MBP… hoping for a £1799 starting point. Possibly if the US prices are $1899 we could see £1849 (similar to how the iPhones were priced vs US dollars)… who knows with a Monday Apple event. Also first time ordering a Mac right after release but definitely waited my time!

Yes can imagine a £50 difference between the $ and £ prices. This is starting to get expensive real quick!

I’m going for the 14”. I have a 16” MBP supplied by work and it’s not the most portable.

Got my eyes set on a decent monitor to give me the screen real estate (maybe the Samsung cj791) where I can then have both work and personal device picture by picture on the same screen
