Uk 3g Data Plans

hey their people im currently saving for a iPad 3g either 16gb or 32gb. which ever comes up on ebay or if i decide to buy 16gb brand new.

firstly can i ask is 16gb enough space for just an average user ( no movies or pictures just few games and browsing apps.)

also i think i have decided to go with three networks 10gb for £15 a month.

are they the best for coverage and speed? and can i use a solo card to top it up and just have it taken out my account or do you need a maestro card?

Okk since no one has tried to help.

16 is enough, but whatever just buy the one you can afford. Too many variables to day which is best.

Three on the other hand require a contract to be set up, so it will most likely be set up as direct debit.

Speed and coverage wise their the best for me, you only get 3G or no signal tho.

If you can be bothered, set up a three pay as you go sim, get the Internet add on (£5) then set up payments online, has fair usage, but it's 2GB.

16Gb - should be fine. I have a 32Gb and until I loaded it with TV shows ready for a long haul flight I was fine with space.

10Gb per month 3G is more than enough IMHO. I have their 1G package and don't even come close to using it all (but I have access to a reasonable amount of wifi).

However, the 1Gb for £7.50 per month and 10Gb for £15 per month are one month rolling contracts so you will have to use direct debit to pay them rather than a debit card (like solo and maestro are).

16gb is plenty.

I'm on that 3 30-day contract where you pay £7.50 for 1gb of data each month and it's fantastic. Coverage is great and speeds are faster than my home broadband.

Not sure if you can pay by card; I had to set up a direct debit.

I'm presuming he's not old enough for a contract, considering he mentioned he had a Solo card (It's like a VISA Debit for 11-15 year olds).

@Frazer19 I'm just guessing, but the above appears to be the case, so if you are hoping to get the 10GB For £15, you'll need an adult (most likely your parent) to sign the contract, many parents won't do this nowadays. If not, you can just get the 1GB/£10 PayAsYouGo plan.

Three is renowned for it's best UK coverage and data speed, but their customer service is horrific.
 
Agree with the Three comments, they have the best package and speed by a long shot but when you need to speak with customer services it can be very frustrating - think overseas call centre reading off cards. It lasted 40 minutes on the phone signing up, spelling out nearly every word for all the extra information Three wants to know about you. When the bill arrived my address had been mistyped despite my best efforts. Having seen how O2 do it - sign up and manage your account natively on the iPad settings screen - Three's back room processes are still in the dark ages. For this reason only, I went back to O2 - slower speeds, compressed images (although I connect to a VPN to solve that one), but I'm back in control of my account.

I know a fair few adults who have Solo cards. Some banks offer them by default on certain accounts plus some people prefer them because they are harder to go overdrawn with.

Why not try the £20 for 3GB pay as you go option? It lasts for up to 3 months, or until you use your credit up, which ever comes sooner. A good way to see exactly how much 3G data you need.

I'm using about 1.2 GB per month, so this works out as the best package for me, but I only use the 3G connection 2 hours commuting per day and evenings. No use of Utube etc.

Re: space. I got the 32GB, and I'm surprised with how quickly it is filling. 3GB is taken up with device formatting and iOS (iTunes records the iPad as having 29.04 GB total space). I think a 16 GB iPad would get eaten into pretty quickly...

In two months of usage, my selected iTunes take up 8.5GB, and the apps (and their data) take up another 3.3GB so far. Another 1.5GB used for other stuff, leaving less than 16GB free.

I switched my iPhone from O2 to 3 a few months ago and I've been really impressed. Only downsides are lack of visual voicemail (the workaround is to use the HulloMail app) and occasionally the phone is a bit slow to switch from GPRS to 3G. But their tarrifs and coverage are considerably better than O2 - at least for me.
