Now with the release in the UK of the iPad, has any UK carrier confirmed if they will have an international plan as part of their tariff?

I have searched the web, this forum, and spoken with reps in store at o2 and orange and no one seems to be able to confirm. I travel to USA in a few weeks, and whilst i know i will get WIFI, and that getting a US sim is out of the question without a US addressed credit card. I would like the convenience of buying an international plan before i go, even though it will be expensive.

Anyone know any firm details?

You can apparently buy a micro-sim from AT&T for $15~ and then use a pre-paid visa gift card to activate the plan with a hotel address and then cancel it from renewing.

Has to be cheaper than an international roaming plan!

If you're going to be in the US for a few days, you might look at renting a MiFi. They can ship it to your hotel and have it waiting for you. To return it, simply have FedEx pick it up at the hotel on the day you check out.

From what I found online, it appears they go for around $10US/day with a 3 day minimum. From what I remember, that is cheaper than what you have to pay for Wi-Fi at a premium hotel in major cities...
