I'm looking to buy an iPhone 3G as a gift for my other half and I wondering if anyone had any suggestions for retailers?

I see Play.com are selliing them for some crazy price. Anyone else know of a retailer selling a bog standard 3G for a not too insane price?

This might work. Find a friend with an iPhone on O2 who is not interested in the new O2 unlocking service.

Then, buy a pay-and-go 3G from O2 for £342. Pop their SIM card in it so the network registers that it's been used on their contract. Get them to fill in the O2 unlock request on O2.co.uk, using the IMEI munber of the new phone. Swap the SIM cards back.

In 2 weeks time the new phone should become "factory unlocked"

I say it "might" work - I will know in a couple of weeks since I just bought a pay-and-go 3GS to replace my 2G on my monthly Simplicity contract, and have requested them to unlock the 3GS. Only possible hitch is if they apply the 12 month pay-and-go unlocking rule, but I'm not expecting them to as the phone is not being used on pay-and-go.

Argh... someone on here posted a reply offering to sell me an unlocked phone at cost price and the post's been deleted. Can whoever it was send me a private message?? Please?? :(
