Hi,

I've had many iPads, over the years, but have just got my first cellular model (2018 iPad Pro). I've been looking for a data SIM, but it seems all the big providers (EE, 3, etc) all want you to sign a rolling contract. I was under the impression I'd be able to just buy a SIM with several gigs of data, then top-up as necessary. Maybe this isn't the modern way, but does anyone know of a cost-effective SIM that can be topped up as and when I need more data?

You can get them from GiffGaff. They used to do phone and data packages but I believe that they now have the same for both purposes. The data doesn't roll over and you have to top up every month.

I have had a Three contract SIM for six years, in a Gen 4 iPad. I also now have a 2018 iPad Pro and I will not accept for much longer the really poor performance as shown in the Speedtest app. My XS Max is ten times faster on BT (EE).

Yes you can get pay as you go SIM cards from most providers. I often find the cheapest way of doing this is via eBay. Although make sure you read the listing carefully as they can be misleading.

Or just buy direct? For example:

http://store.three.co.uk/view/searc...rTariff=50to99.99&payGPriceForTariff=0to49.99

They're rolling 30 day contracts like the rest, but BT Mobile offers some very cheap data-only SIMs, and you get a discount if you have BT Broadband.
