Hi,
I have something which I would like some of your opinions regarding buying Applecare from the Higher Education store in the UK. We seem to be in the unique situation where all desktops and portables are covered by a 3 year warranty rather than the usual 1 year. However, this not the same as getting Applecare, because this is a hardware warranty only, telephone support is limited to the first 90 days as normal.
My question is this: Is it worth paying the extra £58+VAT to upgrade to full Applecare? I'm very knowledgeable about computers etc, and I'll never ever need the telephone technical support, but I'm aware of the fact that when you need a repair, Apple can be very pushy regarding Applecare and generally less helpful when it comes to getting a repair sorted out. I'm worried that I'll be treated differently, or less favourably by choosing not to upgrade to full Applecare and then needing a repair in years 2 or 3 of the warranty.
Does anyone have any experiences of dealing with Apple when a machine is still within warranty, but without Applecare?
