I will be relocating to the UK from the USA in a few months and will likely be picking up an iPhone. Because I'll be traveling back and forth between the two countries, I will need a solution that works in both places. Now should I:

(a) Buy up an iPhone in the USA and then unlock it for use in the UK

(b) Get a UK iPhone and get it unlocked (I hear this can't be done) so I can use it when I visit the USA

Also, what do you guys think about the O2 iPhone plans? Worth it or not? My usage would be primarily gmail and facebook browsing, as they're blocked at work so I'm not sure if that would throw me over 200 mb/month.

hi, if i were you, i would get a US iPhone (because they are cheaper)

Jailbreak it, then it can be used for AT+T and O2 Sim cards (as these are official apple carriers)

alternativly buy one which of a lower unlockable software version (1.0-1.1) then you can put any sim you want in there.

there are also strange plastic bits you attach to any sim, which will make it work in the iPhone, but i dont know about these, so will leave that to someone else to talk about...

they dumped the 200MB fair use policy on the iphone plans, so you wouldn't have to worry about that if you got an iphone tariff.

are you sure about that?
