I have a pop3 account, own domain (sixandseven.com) which I use for emails.

I use Mail at home on mac with no problems, send and receive. I;ve jst bought a 3g UK based iPhone, synced it up using iTunes. The accounts are all set up, the iPhone mail account receive emails, but will not send them.

Common messages are:

email address not valid
could not send from smpt.sixandseven.com

Should I be using smpt.o2.co.uk or is it a port issue (although the port s the same as my home computer)

Can anyone help?

Kind regards

All POP accounts on the iPhone in the UK need to use O2's outgoing mail server. Address is smtp.o2.co.uk. User name and password are the same as your log in details for the My O2 web page.

That's not true, mine are working perfectly with my own outgoing mail servers.

I would imagine that your outgoing server will be 'smtp.sixandseven.com' and not 'smpt.sixandseven.com' as you posted.

If that works for you fine. I have BTInternet (as well as exchange) on mine. The BTInternet account stopped sending emails (it did at first with no problem) so I went onto the Apple help page and that was the information I got (ie use o2 smtp). All now working fine.

I may be being really stupid here - i've just got an iphone, and moved from blackberry pearl.

I have to say that setting up the iphone has been disappointingly tricky compared to setting up a blackberry (which took about 5 minutes). Personally, I'm not sure Apple is really there yet with enterprise class email - but I don't really care as it's pretty. :)

In any case, I'm trying to set up pop email as well - on my outlook settings I had incoming and outgoing as mail.company.com - do I need to put smtp in there somewhere now?

Sorry if this is a really stupid question...

Thanks.

I think I mayhave cracked it

after standing at the genius bar for 30 mind and getting no joy from thedolt,I called up o2 my phone carrier and asked. I now use my domain setting for incoming mail and SMTP.o2.co.uk for sending. It's messy but it does work for me. I suspectthis will not be the casefor every one. This was typed on an iPhone so please excuse the sloppy spacing

Good luck
