Hi all,

Has anything been said regarding the UK iPhone release at all?

Ta for that.

I hope ours has 3G/HSDPA - perfect compensation for our wait for the device!

there was a rumour about an announcement yesterday which has proved to be false. we do know it's coming in the fourth quarter of this year. i think it'll come right at the end of that period. it will, i think, have to be 3G otherwise it will be operating at GPRS speed which would not be acceptable. so there will have to be a decent interval between the introduction of the present model and the new faster model otherwise it will piss off an awful lot of owners.

Why would Apple release a product that will sell like hotcakes in late December? I think it's going to be October-early November.

Why? Because in time for Xmas, they'll get a sales bump from first release, and meet demand with a first shipping...

Then time to advertise it, build up stocks, and also time for word of mouth to get round. By the time people get them into their hands, and then friends and family see them and have a play, stoking buzz and demand, Santa will be a busy boy...

You can take that to the bank. :D

Word of mouth on the iPhone in the UK is already massive. I think if they announced tomorrow for a next week release they would still see massive sales.

I don't think we'll see any announcements over network until next month at the earliest. If apple are still in talks (and i expect everyone to have waited until the American release to see who would have the upper hand in talks - Apple or the networks) then once the final numbers are in a deal will be struck.

Whether the phone will have 3g, though likely, will probably be saved until nearer release.
