i'd like some opinions - iv just bought a jb'd iphone 3g and have put my tmobile sim in it. apart from a few teething problems its working ok.

my tmob contract is a 30day rolling plan that costs £20. the equivalent plan on O2 costs £25. should i change to the O2 contract? everything else being equal, the benefits of either over the other would seem to be:

O2

- i can stop worrying about the jailbreak and whether it (or i) will screw up my phone
- i can update th OS as and when
- free (and visual!) voicemail, and customer services
- cloud and openzone wifi (having had an ipod touch this would seem to be very useful)
- more 'unlimited' internet than tmob

Tmob

- im already with them, so its 'easier' to stay put. and i know that my 3g signal is generally really good around london.
- a bit cheaper
- its jailbroken, so thats useful right? (personally i think id probably be happy with just apple's closed system, although the free tethering might be useful. i've got no interest in changing 'themes' or any decorative nonsense like that). also, the unlocked status makes it more saleable, doesn't it?

thats how i see it at the moment. would you agree with my analysis? when i write it out like that it seems pretty obvious who i should be with. i suppose im really wondering what your opinions of O2's 3g service in the uk (esp. london) is like, given that they are supposed to be upgrading it.

you could always relock (ie a simple restore) then do an oficial unlock here costs £15 and you would have effectively a 'factory unlocked' iphone and could use it on any network

i would do that if i could but im not an O2 customer so that option is not available to me. the iphone was bought 2nd hand from a shop.

thanks for that link - i've just ordered a sim. I can think of one reason why it wouldn't work; namely that the number of the sim card i buy wont be tied to the imei of the phone because i didnt puchase them together. the link does state that unlocking is available for 'iPhone pay&go' customers - strictly speaking i wouldn't be one of them. but maybe im just a cynic and it would be fine. has this worked for anyone?

In any case, while an official unlock would be preferable to the jailbreak i currently have, my main quandary is not resolved. Should i go to O2 or not?
