UK Mac Mini price too high

I'm Apple mad - but don't you think the current price for the Mac Mini (UK) is devoid to the point of the Mac Mini?

I was checking on eBay for the same Mini I bought brand new from Apple in 2007 for £399 - to find the same model now boxed and complete in good condition you are looking at £350 including P&P!

Of course this is due to the loony £200 increased cost for a Mac Mini.

The new Mini is stunning, but it's not worth £200 more than the Mini we had 3 years ago.

Mr Jobs, get that price down!!

Agreed. It is ridiculous. If they were back at the original price points, or close enough (£400) I might consider finally ridding my workflow of PowerPC and Core Duo Macs (keeping them only in use for collector purposes) - I mean my iMac CD is really struggling, but I cant afford to replace it with a newer Mac, since I just had to move from my G4/450 to my Mac Pro (I needed Final Cut Studio 3).... And if I could get one that cheap I might be able to finally persuade the rest of my family to switch... (Their all on PCs... Shame since they could all use OS X so much more)
 
I was hoping for at least £100 off instead of the recent £50. It aggrieves me that it costs so much over here. Though as I update it often (recently yearly update) I only pay the difference between the one I sell and the new one (was around £175 difference this year).

Well, the 50 quid discount equates its price with the rest of Europe.
599 quid equals 695€, which is roughly the price you pay in Germany, France, etc. (~700€).
It was 800€ before, so the UK was indeed the cheapest place to get a Mini in Europe!

Still, the prices are completely bonkers. I paid 500 for my Mini last year and even that was too expensive for that thing.

But I'm not sure it is that expensive. Try finding a similar spec SFF PC.

When I bought my 2.53 mini last year the best alternative I could find was a Transtec Senyo Mini which, when spec'd to 4Gb memory and with a 320 Gb drive came to more than the Apple (not that they are easy to find either).

That I got a referb for £529 in the end was even better. :)

But if you think the mini is too expensive you don't have to buy one do you? I might think Bentleys are too expensive - but they are not Protons are they?

Agreed. I had been using AOpen SFF PCs (size of a shoe box and size of the old mini). They were very hot. The fans on the old mini-sized one kept burning up and getting noisy. Both of them had wall warts (external transformers). The new mini is great. I were to spec out a new AOpen, I don't see where I could get it at any price that would make up for the new mini's cool, quiet operation.

Sorry about the price difference here in Los Estados Unidos. :D
 
I think it is partly that the UK price is slightly out of sync with the US prices-

$699 = £435.

£599 - VAT = £510

If the Mac mini was £550/£575 that would be quite fair.

However, even the US price is a bit high. The price increase when the new-style Mac Mini was introduced was huge. Lower the US price, and get the UK price to around £500 and they will become a lot more popular.

Guess since the £50 price drop they haven't been able to keep them in stock!

Makes you wonder if Apple dropped the prices across all their range by a small amount whether they would also see a huge surge in sales.
