Hi all,

I'm loving my new iPhone 3G (my first iPhone) but I'm having trouble trying to find out how to activate the O2 Visual Voicemail (UK).

When I click the voicemail icon it just rings the standard O2 voicemail 901 service. How do I get visual voicemail on my iPhone?

Many thanks for your help.
John

Setting Up Voicemail
The first time you tap Voicemail, iPhone prompts you to create a voicemail password
and record your voicemail greeting.
Change your greeting:
1 Tap Voicemail, tap Greeting, then tap Custom.
2 Tap Record when you’re ready to start.
3 When you finish, tap Stop. To review, tap Play.
To rerecord, repeat steps 2 and 3.
4 Tap Save.

I hope this helps, it has been a while since I have done this so I had to go to the bible to find out. ;)

According to O2:

The iPhone uses the GPRS,EDGE or 3G/HSDPA to download the messages to your device. If you are in an area where there is poor data coverage, the iPhone will prompt you to dial 901 to retrieve your voicemail.

You need to call O2 and make sure you are on an iPhone tariff. Then all should magically work.

But having just seen the date on your original post, you've probably already had an SMS warning you about your data use and called them to find out why!

Not directly related to the original query, but worth noting that if you're using a PAYG sim in a 2G iPhone (like I am), Visual Voicemail isn't available at all. :(

Just to follow up this thread, as I had the same issue.

I moved my number over from another contract and they didn't put me on the iPhone tariff for some reason, so that was the cause. I had to phone O2 in order to get them change it over. Glad I did, as I was using the Internet a lot and my bill would have been massive.

It works now thankfully. It turns out I didn't have a 3G sim, so I had to get a new sim card, but my visual voicemail just started automatically a couple of days before that. Must have been the teething problems O2 had with everyone's setup initially. It works great by the way!
