[UK] “Orange online shop don’t do iPad microSIMs”!

If you want an iPad SIM from Orange I strongly advise against ordering it online. Here’s why:

I got an O2 SIM with my iPad, but after being cut off before using my 24hrs of data, and then having no reply to emails to O2 CS about the matter, I have decided to try Orange. So I ordered an iPad SIM on the Orange website (http://shop.orange.co.uk/ipad/) back on 14th June and eventually got my order this morning.... except they have sent me a full size SIM!

I tried to swap it in my local Orange shop, but, of course they are out of stock (“the iPhone 4 launched today”) and, I was told, I would need to take it up with the online store anyway...

So I phoned Orange customer services to be told, I quote, “we don’t do the micro-SIM for the iPad online”.... When I pointed out the web address etc she reiterated “if you order an iPad SIM online you won’t get a micro SIM...” (as if this was common knowledge and I should have known not to expect a microSIM). Anyway, my problem has, I’m told, been referred to "technical support" and they should post a replacement tomorrow.

Well that was how I was expecting it to work out

OK, so they sent the wrong size SIM - people make mistakes. But then a CS rep comes up with this story - are they told to say ANYTHING other than admit Orange made a mistake?

Why can't you try going to a Apple Store, they give out free micro sims, 1 per customer, but you can keep coming back for the different networks, you can cut down a full size sim to fit anyways.

I also got with O2 then changed to Orange and I got an iPad specific package which says iPad on it and is a mini sim can't believe this happened to you!

My nearest AppleStore is a 45 min drive away, and I thought (silly me) that ordering one online from Orange would be cheap (it was, £0.00), quick (it has taken 10 days so far...) and easy (I spent over half an hour on the phone whilst they tried to sort out the problem).

The problem now is I'm signed up for the SIM I have been sent, and I guess this might cause problems if try to sign up for another one in-store? But then I can see it will take another 1/2 hr phone call to Orange CS sort things out if/when I get the replacement microSIM...

Sounds like a lot of hassle! I hope you get it sorted soon. Personally, I've just gone for the 12GB for £35 for 12 months, but it looks like their sold out, they were preloaded (3-UK) so no need for call centres.

I'm on orange (for my phone), but their 3G coverage isn't the best, three around me have the strongest 3G signal.

Umm, why don't you just trim the SIM to fit?

No body carries micro SIMs in Belgium and I just cut up a standard phone SIM for my data connection.

I might try Three. I have tested O2, Orange and Vodaphone SIMs in my (unlocked) iPhone 3GS, and Orange has the best overall coverage in the places I need it. Three's online reception predictor predicts worse coverage than Orange in these places, so I'm hoping I can sort something with Orange. But a real test with a Three SIM might be worth trying. I have also read (on here) about Three's poor CS, but then I'm very un-impressed with Orange CS now! (Thats a pity, because as soon as my O2 iPhone contact expires I was planning to move to Orange on that as well - unless their CS comes good with the iPad I might have to rethink that.)

I could try cutting the SIM down, but, as others have attested in this thread, Orange CAN supply micro SIMs for iPads... The 'big' SIM they have sent is also one with the large contact area which means trimming copper - I think that might make it a bit trickier.
