UK Parallels users - read this before upgrading to 3.0

If you purchased the UK boxed version of Parallels, do not attempt to upgrade to Parallels 3.0 using the download released last night on http://www.parallels.com.

Also, if you have purchased the upgrade offer from last week, you will need to try to arrange a refund, it will not work with the UK boxed version.

Dear Sir

What you will need to-do is to contact Parallels at support@parallels.com, you will need to request a refund from them for the version 3.0 of Parallels Desktop.

The reason for this is the US version of Parallels Desktop won't accepoted the UK activation key, then you can reinstall Parallels Desktop 2.x.

NOTE: the created VM can't be used with version 2.0, when you installed version 3.0 it has altered the virtual machine so if you reinstall Parallels Desktop 2.0 you can't open that virtual machine but I would still keep the virtual machine for when version three arrives here in the UK.

This means that you will need to wait for the UK version of Parallels to arrive, if you open Parallels and goto help and check for updates in a few days time you should get a popup box telling you how to upgrade to the latest UK version of the software.

This will be the same version that is on the Parallels website but will work with your UK activation key.

My UK version of Parallels & my activation key worked perfectly.

Are you sure they are regionalised and you didn't just end up with a dodgy activation code ?

Perfectly sure and both the UK & US Parallels support staff agree with me.

So do a few others here

I do have it working now with a 15 day key but there is no way to permanently activate the 3.0 download from http://www.parallels.com if you have purchased the original software in the UK.

If you downloaded your original software from http://www.parallels.com you should be ok. If you downloaded it from the Avanquest web site, you will be in the same situation as me.


Oh, Parallels (US) agreed to refund my payment for the upgrade to 3.0. Then they discovered they can't issue refunds. Great, isn't it

An upgrade is now available from Parallels for customers with the UK boxed retail version and the upgrade key from Parallels.

Oh I see, my version was the downloaded version directly from parallels website. Didn't actually realise they sold 'retail boxed' copies over here.
