Hi Guys,

OK, so my ability to get nice large prints of my snaps done has been curbed thanks to my company splitting into two and the print guys going with the other side.

I dont print enough to justify having my own print setup, so I am looking for a good option for printing large poster sized images.

Who do you use in the UK? and are they any good?

Advice very much appreciated.

Thanks.

I have used loxley and pro-am. Both are good, pro-am are cheaper but you have to prep the files yourself.

Awesome thanks guys! A few weeks ago I took some pictures of the cars at my brother in laws garage.

I printed a few out and had them framed for them.

One of the owners came round and saw the picture and asked where it came from. brother in law said I had done them. I have now been asked to take some pictures for some of the other owners! Very exciting!

I've used The Print Space for several years. The quality is excellent as is customer service. They have a good range of materials and can do either giclee (inkjet) or c-type (developed photo paper). I gave up on doing my own printing a while back when I realised how much I was spending on ink and paper particularly when you include all the mistakes where I loaded the paper wrong or ran out of an ink half way through a print.

Good luck with the prints. Car lovers can be good customers, I did a couple of leather bound photo books for a car collector which was a lovely project.

Not for free mind! Make sure you more than cover your costs. :)

Good point, what would be acceptable inclusion?

Printing £40, framing will be about £100, then wear and tear on my camera £1 :)

My time/experience... it is adding up already so I am not sure...

Lets not get too excited yet :)

At this point it is a Porsche geek wanting a picture of his pride and joy... Maybe 2-3 down the line, I will think it is a trend and get some confidence... :)

That's why you need to come and check out my stand at The Photography Show.
By the time I've sold you half our stock you'll never worry about colour management again!
Framing is a bit trickier in my limited experience. I always seem to move it at the last second. Dutch angles a speciality!

I only picked up a camera to take better pictures of my daughters! Now I am talking colour management, dutch corners and framing... Where the hell did all this come from!? :)

It's a bug. I remember debating for months if I could justify the cost of my D3100 and kit lens. Now look at what I've bought!
Liking the idea of a light carbon fibre tripod at the moment.

That's cheap! Someone I know bought that one (or very similar). I'll see what trade price I can get at Manfrotto at the show. As usual it's the difference between light enough that I don't leave it in the boot, but sturdy enough it's worth taking!

Exactly. I have a nice heavy Manfrotto for sturdiness, but it orbits the house at best.

I also bave a MeFoto Daytrip which folds up lovely and is light but only extends anout 2ft high.. so it is a trade off.

I like the look of the MeFoto Daytrip

Also, Mafrotto do a new leg construction on a ultra portable which could be good option.

Travel expenses—whatever the going rate is nowadays
Time—don't know about this, maybe someone with more experience can chip in

You could always break the rest down for them and see how much they want.

Printing—£40
Framing—£100

Don't be not sure. If they want you to come and work for them, they should expect to pay a reasonable rate. Some people have no idea of the costs involved for the photographer, they just see something nice would like one of their own. Don't be apologetic about the price. Just tell them confidently what the price is and then it's up to them whether they want to go ahead.

I am alright telling folks my daily rate for work as I know I am worth it... This is different... :) lol... Just cost it up like a normal project I suppose...
