Apologies if this is a real 'newbie' query... never pre-ordered before...

I live in the UK but am considering pre-ordering an iPad from the States as my parents live in Florida and are visiting the UK on the 10th April.

Is there anything to stop me ordering from a Florida store? Is it best/ safer to go for a home delivery or a pick up in store? Don't want to risk pre-ordering, then if there aren't enough iPads left, not being able to buy a UK one when they are released?

I'm going Wifi only anyway, so guess there's nothing that will make it UK incompatible? I bought my MacBook pro a few years ago in NY and had no problems with using it over here.

If the iPad should break, can I have it fixed in the UK even if I bought it in Florida?

Thanks so much for your advice - I'd be lost without the MacRumors forums!!

1 - I suggest you order it to your parents' address online

2 - No compatibility issues, even in the 3G version

3 - The warranty is worldwide

Hope it helps :)

Wouldn't the power adapter be different....U.S. vs U.K.?

Steve

Yeah, but you can easily find a uk plug to put on the power adapter, apple made, because like with your macbook the adapter are modular and can easily replace one plug with the other. Take the us out, put a uk in.

Thank you - that's so helpful. I'll order online in that case this evening and get it shipped to them.

I've swapped in a UK adapter before on US - bought Mac products so that part should be fine..I hope!

Just out of interest, is it likely that if I order online today to have it shipped to my folk's address that there will be a stock shortage and I won't get it? Or that it will be delayed by a week and they'll leave before it arrives? Not sure if anyone has had any experience with this with other products.

Thanks again.

sure there is that chance but fingers crossed.

At least you have a chance to get it because here in the UK nothing concrete has come out yet on release dates.

I think you will only be able order on line (Apple.com) if you have a US credit card, even if you are having it delivered to a US address. It would be best to get your parent in Florida to place the order.

You will need to look into this a bit further.
