When will every Apple browser change stop our largest ISP streaming service from playing live sport?

British Telecom says it is an Apple problem, Apple does not seem to know what the problem is or who's responsible for it.

I repeat. Every change of Apple browser means I have to use 'Firefox' until BT or Apple decide to fix the problem. I pay BT for the service and Apple for the tools to use it.

Why is it every time??

Firefox, Chrome and the other browser developers update a LOT more frequently if not every day (some have "nightly builds").

I am the opposite of you in that I don't use Safari unless I have to.

Not an 'update' sorry. I meant an OS change that includes a new browser. Incremental updates have never been a problem and are also frequent.

A few things to try to narrow it down:

- Switch off Private Relay under System Preferences / Apple ID

- Check the Safari settings specific for the streaming website. In particular Enable Content Blockers, Autoplay and Pop-up windows

- Disable any Safari extensions that may be installed

I don’t understand the question. I use Safari exclusively (no browser can compete with ad blockers in iOS), but I also use services like YouTube TV that literally only work in other browsers that aren’t Safari so I use Brave for those. It’s a necessary evil when using a browser that is not a worldwide standard (Chrome and Chromium-based browsers make up about 90% of the world’s browser usage).

I understand…and disagree with "frequent" when compared to the other, major web browsers. I think Apple is slow to respond to changes on the web…maybe they think the web should conform to Apple.

Yeah, I can't imagine any reason why Safari should be at fault here. Web standards are generally *really* backwards compatible and you see pretty much no other site break with every Safari release.

This is the fault of the ISP, or more specifically the fault of whoever is the technical lead of this streaming platform.

Thank you 'all' for your comments. The usual mix. I will look into jscol suggestions and note Bandamans comments especially (esp. Brave suggestion).

Will use 'Brave" for the BT streaming for now

And a further thought:

If you haven't already, go to Safari -> Preferences -> Advanced and switch on 'Show Develop menu in menu bar'.

Then under the Develop menu, select 'Show JavaScript Console'

This will highlight any errors that are down to the website's coding.

There are red lines of print. Things blocked?
I have no idea what it all means or what to do?

OK, it looks like the problem is that the webpage is being served securely by https, but is trying to load resources from an insecure source using http. Safari stopped allowing these types of mixed content pages to load a few versions back. There used to be a preference that would allow mixed content, but it was removed a while ago.

I'm surprised it works in Firefox, as I thought that blocked mixed content too (unless you have overridden the checks?). Firefox has a console as well, under Tools -> Browser Tools -> Browser Console.

No idea what the error in the Firefox console is referring to!

Have you posted this to a BT support forum? The issue appears to be their problem, as BT are serving a mixed secure/insecure content page.
