I'm on the cusp of making a purchase but really want this wi-fi issue sorted.

Please detail here any problems you have had with your wi-fi and how you have fixed them.

Really, there shouldn't be ANY issues with wi-fi.

Hi,

Got the wifi iPad. No problems with the wifi here. No dropped connections or weak signals. Full signal anywhere in the house same as iPhone and MacBook pro.

I've had my ipad for erm..... 4 ish weeks and had no issues what so ever.

No probs at all here with a 32g 3G.

A mate of mine got his a few weeks ago from the states and he had a dropping out issue - he got a 16g wifi, but that problem seems to have gone away after he reset his router.

I have a Linksys wag 160n router with an iPad, hackintosh with a Linksys wireless n card and a Nokia N900 (on g). So 2 devices on n and one on g.

Late last night I found that I needed to do a remote reboot of the router and then this morning, when I tried to join any of the devices to the network, I couldn't. I had to pull a hard reboot on the router, but after that it all worked.

I changed the hack to use static ip if that makes any difference. But if there are any further problems I'll change the iPad to static too.

Worked flawlessly so far. Using Linksys WR54GL with tomato firmware.
That is 802.11g with WPA.

I have found the signal strength is a little erratic, jumping from low to full to medium in a matter of seconds. I also find that if the signal is low if I tip the iPad back to better expose the antenna then the signal jumps up. I haven't had any signal drops or anything, and the device always feels fast so I'm not too bothered really.

On our home network it's been fine although the number of 'bars' of signal strength vary hugely the actual speed seems to be consistent!

Got mine yesterday and has been flawless so far(touch wood). I was very worried as my network is wep due to some old devices I have and it seemed to be the crux of most problems. But it reconnects fine with no reentry of key and I get full bars most places but with the occasional drop to 2 bars.

I'm having horrible problems. It's spoiling my iPad experience a lot which is a shame because apart from the WiFi issue I love it. I have a Linksys WRT350N router with, as far as I can tell, the latest firmware (although I have a mystery surrounding that right now). I've tried setting a static IP address and using DHCP and both give serious issues. I have 3 other devices on the network working flawlessly.

I don't see any strength problems, I have 3 bars all the time. Out of the box it detected the network immediately, I entered the WPA2 password, and we were off and running. It seemed solid for about the first 30 minutes but then I started having web pages stop loading or an app or ibook download stall. Going to the WiFi settings and selecting "Renew Lease" recovers the connection (which is why I tried to fix the problem by switching to static IP) but it's only a matter of time before it drops and this fix is needed again. I'd say on average the connection drops every 5 to 10 minutes with it sometimes going 20 or 30 minutes without dropping and other times dropping 2 or 3 times within a 5 minute period.

The only saving grace I see on all this is that Apple have at least acknowledged the problem and said that there will be a software update to address it but I wish they'd hurry up. I'm not entirely convinced that their characterisation of the affected as "a very small number of people" is accurate; if it is then I guess I've just been incredibly unlucky.

I hope you'll let we antipodeans chime in too, I have had my iPad for a whole one day now and have had one network drop out though I can't assign blame to the iPad just yet for that as it's more than likely to be a problem with my dodgy arse old Airport Express that's running things here at the moment.

So far it seems fine. Quicker than my iPhone 3G and 3rd gen iPod touch (running 4.0) but not as quick as my laptop in terms of downloading data though there's not a great deal in it to be frank.

The Elements app downloaded just fine, took just under an hour. The Popular Science issues though took an age so it's all about where the data is coming from.

To surmise. Yes, I have had a network drop out. No I can't say it's the fault of the iPad. Yes, the iPad is awesome.

3g model, but no problems with wifi or dropped connection after 3 days of solid use.

Same here. No dropped signal but the indicator does drop occasionally, but the speed remains good.

Sent from my iPad ;)

Wow. It is just me.

I solved the mystery surrounding the version of the firmware on my router. The good news is that I'm not running the latest version. The bad news is that the version I was running is, according to the Cisco/Linksys release notes, the critical one where they upgraded the firmware to full 802.11n compliance. I've just upgraded my firmware to the latest release anyhow, even though none of the changes since the version I had seem to be significant.

I really hope this firmware upgrade will fix the issue, or I find some other solution, and that I can post a retraction here soon. I will definitely do that if appropriate.

I'm running a BT home hub here (which is rubbish by the way) and I haven't had any issues with my 32Gb on it. No dropouts and it downloads as fast as my MacBook.

In a word: overblown.
